Doohamlet GFC Notes Seniors League: Doohamlet 3-12 Monaghan Harps 1-08 Doohamlet Seniors gained a valuable two league points on Wednesday evening last with a home win against Monaghan Harps. Having suffered a heavy defeat against the same opposition on the opening day of the season Doohamlet set about their task from the first whistle. Inspired by Colin Walshe with his strong running and endless supply of ball, our forwards were rampant and built a healthy lead going in at the break leading 2-08 to 0-02. Barry McGinn looked back to his best after injury and tormented the Harps defence finishing to scorer. Mark Murphy, Michael Marray, Conor Marray and Niall J. Connolly also contributed to a very potent forward line. Our six defenders were outstanding constantly turning over Harps possession and Darren Connolly with his first start of the season can be very happy with his display. Doohamlet 0-09 Ballybay 2-09 A large crowd watched this entertaining league game on Sunday evening last at O’Neill Park. Both sides gave it their all and the game flowed from end to end with some excellent scores. Entering the final ten minutes with the scores level the game was wet up for a grant stand finish. However a controversial Black card to Doohamlets most influential player Colin Walshe disrupted the home side and Ballybay capitalised with two goals which proved decisive. Seniors: Doohamlet 4-12 Carrick 0-07 Doohamlet produced a commanding display on Sunday last with a comprehensive demolition of Carrick in this Senior league fixture at O’Neill Park. Playing a brand of football that varied from keeping possession to fast delivery to our forwards Carrick defence struggled to cope and Barry McGinn, Conor Marray and Barry McBennett scored 3-10 between them. Jamie Walshe continues to impress at midfield and with his fielding and strong running was a constant threat and was involved in most attacks. Scoring 4-12 is an impressive tally at Senior level but this victory was based on our defence. The full back line of Jason McElroy, Kevin McArdle and Gavin King were outstanding turning over Carrick possession time and time again. James Casey in the Doohamlet goal was commanding and produced a top class save in the second half. Team captain Colin Walshe dictated the game from centre back and caused endless trouble for the Carrick defence with his strong forays forward, scoring the opening goal and giving steady supply of ball to our forwards. Another excellent two league points and confidence high as we travel to our neighbours Clontibret for our next game on Wednesday May 4th with a 7.30pm throwin. Membership: Adult membership is now due and committee members will be collecting in the coming weeks. Juvenile membership is also due. A number of families have paid up but some remain outstanding. Juvenile membership €10 Adult Membership €50 can be paid to any committee member. Car Wash: Our Minor team will have a Car Wash fundraiser at Doohamlet cross this Saturday from 10am to 4pm. So please give the lads your support. Bog Snorkling: As everyone knows the Irish Bog Snorkling Championship takes place in Doohamlet annually and we are delighted to announce that Doohamlet GFC will co host this event this year on Saturday 10th September. Seniors: Doohamlet 1-09 Matheracloone 1-11 A disappointing result on Monday evening last as our Seniors lost by two points to a very physical Magheracloone side. This was a game that could have went either way but wayward shooting by the home side proved costly as the visitors were more clinical in front of goal. Doohamlet had the better of the exchanges in the first half with Jamie Walshe dominant in midfield and Barry McGinn continuing his good from keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Doohamlet went in at the break 1-06 to 0-06 in front. Magheracloone hit a purple patch in the third quarter scoring 1-02 to lead for the first time and Doohamlet struggled to find scores After a number of scoring chances were spurned Barry McGinn eventually had the sides level with five minutes remaining, however Magheracloone tagged on two more points to claim victory. Best for Doohamlet were Damian Ward, Colin Walshe, Martin Hughes, and Ryan Ingram in defence. Jamie Walshe had an outstanding game at midfield scoring two points and Kevin McArdle, Conor Marray and Barry McGinn were most impressive in the forward line. Doohamlet next Senior game Sunday next against Carrick. Check official fixture list for throwin time. Congrats: All Doohamlet folk should be so proud of our young forward Barry McGinn who was outstanding for Monaghan U21’s last weekend. A heartbreaking defeat should not detract from a magnificent display by the Ulster Champions. Well done Barry and our other team members Barry McBennett and Jamie Walshe, you did your club and country proud. Get Well: To our veteran full back Martin Hughes who suffered a nasty injury against Magheracloone. Hopefully see Martin back on the pitch soon.

Seniors: Doohamlet 2-09 Scotstown 0-14 Doohamlet gained their first two league points on Saturday last with a hard earned but well deserved one point victory over Scotstown at O’Neill Park. Played in soft underfoot conditions Doohamlet started brightly and Barry Mc Ginn registered the first two points in the opening five minutes. Scotstown replied with a brace of frees from Shane Carey to level the scores at two each. There was no sign of mass defences or men behind the ball as both sides attacked relentlessly. In the second quarter Doohamlet were more efficient in front of goal with points from Barry McBennett and Conor Marray. Another Conor Marray point increased Doohamlets lead before Barry McGinn rounded Rory Beggan in the Scotstown goal and fire to the net following an excellent Barry McBennett diagonal pass. Scotstown replied with two points from James Turley and Shane Carey to leave the half time score Doohamlet 1-06 Scotstown 0-06. The second half began as the first ended with both sides trading scores from placed balls. There was a no-holds barred contest in the middle of the park with Ciaran McManus and Jamie Walshe competing with Emmet Caulfield and James Turley with both pairings have their periods of dominance. Scotstown introduced Conor McCarthy and he began to trouble the Doohamlet defence forcing James Casey in the Doohamlet goal to pull off a a magnificent save. Then the deciding score, Jamie Walshe seized on a loose ball racing through the centre before laying off to Barry McGinn who in turn passed to Barry McBennett to palm into an empty net for goal number two for the home side. Doohamlet now led by five. Scotstown refused to bow and replied with points from Conor McCarthy and Ruari Sheehan to reduce the arrears. Doohamlets defence were outstanding in the final quarter with Colin Walshe, Martin Hughes, Kevin McArdle and Damian Ward all turning over Scotstown possession. Roared on by the large home support Barry McGinn tagged on another point following a foul on Mark Murphy before Ruari Sheehan’s final point reduced Doohamlet lead to the minimum 2-09 to 0-14. Doohamlet held firm however and Referee Pat McEneany sounded the final whistle much to the relief of the home side who worked hard for this victory. Reserves: Doohamlet 4-13 Rockcorry 3-04 Doohamlet 3-12 Blackhill 4-06 Doohamlet Reserves played two games at home and recorded two victories with wins against Blackhill and Rockcorry. Shane McManus has continued his fine run of form with goals in each game and Conor Marray and Michael Marray also contributing with important scores. Good to see Greg Duffy and Christopher Malone return to the playing field and indeed both have been impressive. Also a number of younger players have caught the eye most notably Ryan Ingram who has been outstanding alongside Damian Ward in the half back line.Three consecutive wins have Doohamlet top of the table and this team will take a short break with the Senior team now taking centre stage. Well done Colin Walshe and the entire Monaghan Senior team on retaining their Division 1 status with Colin scoring the winning point in injury time. Huge congrats also to our U21 players Barry McGinn, Barry McBennett and Jamie Walshe on reaching the Ulster Final with an impressive victory over Armagh. Senior League: Monaghan Harps 2-13 Doohamlet 1-08 Doohamlet began their Senior League campaign with a disappointing result against Monaghan Harps on Sunday last. Our gameplan suffered a serious setback after only seven minutes when we were reduced to 14 men and thereafter it was always an uphill battle against last season county finalists. To their credit Doohamlet battled bravely and only four points separated the sides at half time 1-06 to 1-02 Barry McBennett with the goal and Barry McGinn with our two points. The home side continued to dominate the second half with a number of excellent long range points with Doohamlet forwards struggling for scores. Kevin McArdle, Damian Ward, Conor Marray and Colin Walshe were most impressive in an overworked defence with Jamie Walshe, Barry McGinn and Barry McBennett our only scorers in the forward line. A lot of work to be done before we play country champions Scotstown in our next fixture on Saturday 9th April.
