Played in slippery conditions in St.Tiarnach’s park, the home side were dominant throughout. This was a good overall performance with the lads playing some attractive football, Final score Clones 2:14 Emyvale 0:05, we played Corduff last night (Wednesday) in Clones. Our next game is home to Donaghmoyne on Saturday the 31st May at 7pm. there was plenty of support in Clones last Sunday and its great to see good numbers getting behind the team. Minors’: St.Tiarnachs played Truagh on Tuesday last week in Clones in a salivating encounter. This was the clash of the top two teams in the league and it didn’t disappoint, with some great performances on both teams. Home advantage and the support of a great crowd in the field yielded another fantastic victory for this hardworking Clones, Eire Óg amalgamation, final score in Clones St.Tiarnach’s 3:15 Truagh 1:12. This win puts St.Tiarnachs at the top of the table and with a break now until 8th July some of the lads can take a well deserved break, others will be working hard in their exams and we wish them well. U-16s the division3 teams’ game against Toome was conceded by Toome last Thursday, this evenings game against Patrick Emmets is a home fixture with a 7:30pm throwin and the lads would really appreciate your support. The division4 team suffered another agonising defeat against Latton and the lads should take heart in defeat and continue to do their best, good things are sure to come for this team. There’s a break for both teams now ntil the end of June with exams and we wish all our players the very best in their exams. U14’s got the points against Oram last Saturday and their next game is a home fixture against Rockcorry on Saturday in Killeevan. Support the teams. U12’s last Saturday seen the end of the spring league with both teams equipping themselves very well. Our Currin amalgamation enjoyed their football and there are some very bright shining lights for the future. The spring league finals will take place this Saturday the 24th in Cloghan. Mol na h’oige agus tiocfaish siad. There’ll be summer games for the teams when the championship gets under way. U10’s Blitz: we travelled to Rockcorry on Saturday with our usual hope and expectation on a well organised and competitive round of games. We were pitched up against Tyholland, Rockcorry and Drumhowan. Clones hit the ground running and put in a fantastic display all round especially in the first game against Tyholland. A very successful day for our young talent and well deserved for the hard work they put in over the day. A lot of proud parents there as well to witness their little ones playing so well. Outstanding performances all round especially Cormac Adamson, Sarah Monaghan, Oisin Clerkin, Andrew McCaughey and Diarmuid McElvaney. However it soon became obvious that we were up against it. Magheracloone’s experience and overall team work was too much for us and we ended up on the wrong side of a lobsided scoreline after a dissappointing performance. Final score, 2-19 to 1-7. The next Reserve league game is in Blackhill on Wednesday 27th May at 8.00 p.m. Youth Affairs Under 16s: Best of luck to Patrick Emmett’s (Currin / Aghabog) in their top of the table clash this (Thursday) evening against Clones in Clones. It’s first against second with a throw in time of 7:30. All support appreciated. This will be the last game before the break for the exams. Under 8’s: Go Games blitz this Saturday morning in Scotshouse from 10am to 12 noon. There will be a number of neighbouring clubs participating. This is a really enjoyable morning so why not come along and cheer on the boys and girls. Under 12s: Spring League finals in Cloghan on Saturday 24th May. Many thanks to everyone for your continued support. Seniors –The Senior team had a disappointing weekend when they were well beaten by a better Ballybay team in the opening round of the championship. The team and management have been working extremely hard all year and while we all had anticipated a real battle, it just never materialised. We now have some time to get ready for the next Championship match which is on Saturday 9th of August. We are straight back into league action on Wednesday night (Check Web Site for details) with a home game against Magherclone on Wednesday 23rd of May with a throw in time of 8pm before we travel to Monaghan Harps in round nine on Sunday 31st at 7pm. The Reserve Team – On Sunday morning at 12.30 the reserve team will entertain Ballybay in St Mary’s Park. At the half way point in the league we are in joint second place with Ballybay and Tyholland on six points while Cremartin lead the way on eight points. The next round of the Championship is a home game against our neighbours Cremartin on Sunday 8th of June in St Mary’s Park, throw in is down for 3pm. Minors – With the main focus been the leaving cert. exams, the boys have scaled down training for the next number of weeks. The team are undertaking some fundraising on Saturday 7th of June with a Car Wash and we would ask as many club people to come out and support the fundraiser on the day, more details over the next few weeks. Under 16 Boys – The boys were well beaten last week when they travelled to Scotshouse to play Patrick Emmetts. On an evening when nothing went their way, there were some good performances from Kian O’Connor, Cillian Brennan, Colin Merrick and Ryan Mc Kiernan. The boys final league game is on this Thursday night at home to Doohamlet at 7.30pm.This team are currently in third place in the table so two more points would be very welcome. Under 14 Girls – Team of the week this week must go to the Girls under 14 team. They opened their week with an impressive away win over St Brigid’s before they travelled to Monaghan Harps on Monday and made it two wins on the trot. The management are delighted with the Girls progress and this year they are playing in a higher division and still getting some great results. Girls, just keep it going, lets continue to work hard and you never know what might happen. Under 14 Boys – The Boys return to action after their defeat to Killanny on Tuesday the 20th of May at 7pm. The boys require a win to get them back on track after their disappointing result last time out.(Check Website for result) Under 12 Boys– The finals of the Spring League take place this Saturday afternoon in Cloghan. First up will be the development team who play Finn Rua at 2pm, they will be followed by the Senior team who play Monaghan Harps. The best of luck to the boys on what is always an enjoyable, well organised day. Under 10 Boys – Saturday saw the next generation of future Faughs county champions take to the field when Castleblayney Faughs hosted the Under 10 Go Games. On a beautiful sunny morning, teams from the Faughs, Scotsown, Seans and Clontibret all lined up against each other. There was great excitement, skill and commitment demonstrated by all players within the 34 young Faughs Stars, acquitting themselves extremely well against strong opposition. There was no doubting the match of the day, when Faughs 1 coached by Eddie Murphy faced Faughs 2 coached by Pete mc Mahon. After a fantastic game Faughs 1 came out on top by 1 score. Well done to all the boys and a big thanks you to all the parents who came out to support. Training will take place this Thursday night on the Astro Turf at 7pm while Saturday morning the boys are back on the Astro turf at 10 am. Under 8 – This Saturday see the club welcome another round of Go Games for the Under 8’s, with the Faughs entertaining Traugh, Clontibret, Scotstown and Seans. This is the first time that many of these bright young Stars will run out on to St Mary’s Park wearing the Green and Gold, the forecast is good so why not come along and enjoy these young lads giving their all for an hour. Championship Double header – After a number of years, St Mary’s Park made a welcome return to the County Championship Venue list. The field development team had the whole place in perfect condition and the feedback from everyone who attended the double header was extremely positive about our new facilities. On the footballing side, Latton overcame a dogged Doohamlet by two points while Clontibret also had two to spare over Monaghan Harps. Mau Hanratty Golf Day – Friday the 6th of June will see the Faughs hold the second Mau Hanratty Golf Day. The event which was an integral part of the very successful Faughs Gathering last year will make a welcome return to Concra in early June. The event marks the memory of one of the Faughs greats and Castleblayney Golf Club favourites Maurice “Mau” Hanratty. The singles stableford event will no doubt be a full timesheet from early morning until late evening as all Golfers aim to win the Mau Hanratty Cup, kindly sponsored by the Hanratty family. Last August a fellow Muckno Street native Michael McHugh Junior coasted home with a great score to be the first winner of the event and it proved to be one of the great events in both the Castleblayney GAA and Golf worlds so this year will be no different. Seniors: Our seniors lost to Scotstown in the senior championship last Saturday in Clontibret, 0-12 to 1-14. Scotstown opened the scoring with 2 points in the opening 10 minutes only for us to equalise by the 15th minute with scores from Chrissy McKenna and Aidan Coyle. Scotstown retook the lead adding 3 further points by the 20th minute. Chrissy McKenna again registered a point in the 21st minute before Scotstown scored again a minute later to maintain their 3 point margin. Though denied a goal with a point blank save from the Scotstown keeper, we were consoled with 3 points in the 24th, 25th and 30th minute to level the match, our scores from Adam Treanor, Mark Counihan and Chrissy McAnanley. On the stroke of half time, Scotstown converted a free to leave the half time score Gaeil Triucha 0-6 Scotstown 0-7. We quickly levelled matters in the second half with a Chrissy McAnanley point in the 32nd minute before a long range Chrissy McKenna ground ball sent us ahead for the first time in the match by the 37th minute. It was a lead short-lived however as Scostown registered 7 of the next 8 points in the following 15 minutes to lead 0-9 to 0-14 with 8 minutes remaining. Our sole point in this period was a converted Adam Treanor free. We upped the pressure in the final minutes, reducing the margin to 2 points by the 59th minute with 3 points from Adam Treanor, 2 from free kicks. Hopes of a win were quashed however when Scostown scored a last minute goal to close the game 0-12 to 1-14. The loss now takes us into the backdoor side of the competition which is to resume in August. Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Where do I start, where do I begin? I really don’t know because I am lost for words to describe what is happening! As mentioned previously in my notes we are dealing with a brutal and cruel injury crisis which has pushed the club, players and manager’s to the absolute limit. If you sit down and digest the numbers we have 13-15 players who have fallen victim to injury and it just keeps growing and growing with the latest injured player Noel Carroll retiring early from last Sunday’s game against Corduff with a torn hamstring. It’s difficult not to resort to old and tired clichés in an effort to describe our pain but I think the old saying that goes “God loves a trier” is very relevant here because last Sunday 18th May when our senior team travelled to play Corduff in the Monaghan Electrical intermediate football league, we lined out with many off our first team players missing but the fifteen players who started tried their best and showed massive determination, tremendous commitment and incredible heart throughout the game and to me, at this moment in time, that is what it’s all about. Every player left the field with nothing else left in the tank and despite their valiant efforts they went down against a stronger Corduff side who secured a comfortable 1-16 to 0-8 victory. Right now the position feels overwhelming for many of us and it feels like every time we turn around another one of our players picks up an injury! I know it’s not easy to stay positive but at this moment we need to remain upbeat and maintain a positive attitude. Sometimes life throws you a challenge and it’s how we cope as a TEAM that will determine how and when we will overcome this unreal situation. Even though you don’t feel it now…remain focused lads because our luck will change…sometime! There’s an old Chinese proverb that’s says, “Knocked down seven times, get up eight!”…No matter how many times we get knocked down lads, we will get up again. Platinum Tanks Reserve Championship Our reserve footballers travelled to play Carrickmacross in the replay of the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football Championship last Wednesday 14th May and there was no doubting that we were the overwhelming underdogs in light of all the recent injuries. In fairness, it was a huge challenge and even miraculous that we managed to gather enough players to field a team! A team that included a third of the players who were actually fit and able to play, the second third were the walking wounded as they were carrying multiple injuries and the final third contained a bunch of over 40’s who came out of hibernation so that we could fulfil the fixture! Against all the odds the lads showed they were more than capable of matching their opponents and it was no shame to lose the game. Looking at the players faces after the game they were really exhausted, battered and sore leaving the pitch because every player gave it their all and showed all the traits of heart, spirit, character, leadership, honesty and most importantly they displayed enormous pride of wearing the green jersey. The team grew stronger with every minute and they all worked extremely hard and there was great teamwork and some very impressive scores and perhaps with a bit more believe during the first period who knows what might have happened but Carrickmacross secured the victory on a score-line 3-16 to 2-14. Hard luck lads, you did yourselves and the club very proud. Under 12 Spring League Finals Day This Saturday 24th May, is the under 12 Spring league finals day which takes place in the Monaghan training grounds at Cloghan, Annyalla. We have been drawn against the mighty Clontibret and the game has a throw-in time of 2.00pm sharp. The emphasis on the day is FUN and RESPECT and I would encourage as many parents and families to go and support the youngsters on this fun day. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the team mentors and all the players the very best of luck in their final. Under 14 Fixtures Our under 14 footballers secured a well-earned victory over Tyholland in a keenly contested & hard fought battle that was played at Pairc Naomh Mhuire last Saturday 17th May. This was a thrilling match where two determined sides did themselves and the game proud and while the scoreboard shows an eleven point winning margin a gutsy Tyholland side made us fight to the bitter end in this highly exciting encounter that produced some brilliant scores from both sides. In perfect conditions we played with the aid of a slight breeze during the first quarter and produced a fantastic performance full of skill and free-flowing football and at the end we enjoyed a healthy 3-3 to 0-5 advantage. The visitors emerged for the second period in determined fashion and fired over three unanswered points and then quickly added a goal to close the gap to a couple of points. However, with virtually the last kick of the half Pauric O’Brien’s speculative attempt at a point deceived the Tyholland goal-keeper and dropped under the cross bar for a fortuitous goal which kept us firmly in the driving seat leading 4-3 to 1-8 at the midway stage. When play resumed in the third quarter it began at a fast pace with great commitment being shown from both sets of players and there were even some robust exchanges all around the field. It was end to end stuff as Tyholland came out fighting but our defence were in top form and restricted Tyholland to only two points while we tagged on 1-2 to maintain our lead, leading 5-5 to 1-10. The final quarter continued to be a competitive affair with both teams enjoying periods of possession and Tyholland really piled on the pressure during the early moments in search of goals but our lads dug deep and defended stoutly and while they did manage to break through and score 1-2 we slotted over an impressive 2-3 to claim the victory on a score-line Rockcorry 7-8 Tyholland 2-12. The next outing for the under 14 footballers is on Saturday 31st May when they travel to play St. Tiarnach Sarsfields and the game has a throw-in time of 12 noon. Under 16 Fixtures Our under 16 footballers travelled to Oram last Thursday 15th May to play Emerald Sarsfields in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg league campaign and paid a heavy price for wastefulness as our wayward shooting let us down on a few occasions whereas Emerald Sarsfields on the other hand were a lot more economical in front of the posts and secured the spoils. The game was played in glorious conditions and the first half was evenly contested with both teams displaying some breath-taking football where the action was end to end stuff and after an exciting first thirty minutes we trailed by two points with the scoreboard showing Emerald Sarsfields 4-5 Rockcorry 3-6. When play resumed the match continued at a hectic pace and Emerald Sarsfields enjoyed a mini purple patch and the concession of early goals proved decisive because midway through the second half they held a commanding 8-6 to 3-11 advantage. However, the lads responded positively and there was no faulting the commitment from the team as they continued to battle on and during the closing stages of this highly entertaining encounter they fired over some impressive scores but unfortunately the final whistle sounded and Emerald Sarsfields sealed the victory on a final score-line 8-8 to 4-14. The under 16 competition will now take a break to allow players concentrate and prepare for their exams. The next game is scheduled for Thursday 26th June when they travel to play Scotstown. Go Games Blitz Pairc Naomh Mhuire was certainly transformed into a hive of activity last Saturday 17th May as we hosted a very enjoyable and exciting Under 10 Go Games Blitz. The main objective of the Go Games is to provide full participation and give all children a chance to play our games in a fun and an enjoyable environment. As always it was great to see so many youngsters from various clubs having fun playing our National game and it is always great to see the future stars of the club perform at this level in a carefree and exciting manner. Thankfully, the weather stayed dry and teams competing on the day included Clones, Drumhowan, Emyvale, Tyholland and our own wee bunch of warrior’s. Each team played three games and all matches were very entertaining and free-flowing and full credit to all the coaches and mentors for having the teams well organised. All the boys and girls acquitted themselves exceptionally well and gave a wonderful display, showing great enthusiasm and the signs are promising for the future.

Results /Fixtures: Seniors The seniors travelled to Donaghmoyne early last Sunday. A tough venue to play in at anytime but the team suck to their task well. The game ebbed and flowed but the outcome of a one point win was deserved given the overall performance. U-14’s Last Friday night our U14 team travelled to Donaghmoyne and had a tough match but won by 6 points. They were losing after the first quarter, drawn at half time, leading by 11 points in the 3rd quarter and won by 6 points. The wind and the strong sunlight had a bearing on this match. In goals Zack Perkins had some good saves and he was well protected by David Keeley & James Murphy. At half back was Cathal Mc Mahon, James Clerkin & Cian O Leary. In midfield Daniel Reilly & Patrick Mc Carron caused endless problems for Donaghmoyne, both of them scoring goals. Up front Mark Melvin won some good possession scoring 2 points. Fergal Clerkin also got good scores.Darren Kelly, Shane Maguire & Oisin Mc Kenna also played well and got on the score sheet. Killian Murphy came on & played well in defence. Dara Maguire also played in the 3rd quarter & started some good attacks. Josh Hagan came on also & scored an important point. It was great to see so many parents coming along to support this team U-12’s Our U12’s have reached the final of the Spring League and play Drumhowan this Friday 23rd May in Cloghan at 7.00pm.
