Boys Under 12s’: The Under 12s’ had their penultimate game of the Spring League on Friday night last at home when Rockcorry provided the opposition. At the end of the first half Mike Hamill’s charges found themselves in arrears on an 0-8 to 0-3 scoreline. The second half was a totally different affair with the Eire Og lads upping their game. With some well taken points they soon got back on level terms and then proceeded to play their best football of the evening and ran out winners on a scoreline of 0-18 to 0-11. A Spring league Final awaits them on Saturday. Boys Under 14s’: The Under 14s’ played two league game in the space of 5 days last week, the first of which was on Monday when Corduff visited the Smithborough venue. The old saying “goals win games” was again proven to be correct when despite giving as good as they got for the hour, the concession of some soft goals meant we ended up on the wrong end of a 6-14 to 2-18 scoreline. Despite this 8 point reversal this young team can take heart from some of their individual performances on the night. On Saturday last they travelled to Cremartin to play the table topping and undefeated Shamrocks. The first quarter was a closely fought affair and Eire Og just about deserved their 0-4 to 0-2 lead at this stage Despite conceding a goal early in the 2nd quarter our boys fought back and actually had a six point lead entering added-on time at the end of the quarter but then disaster struck with the concession of two soft goals before the half-time whistle sounded to leave it all square at the break, which really flattered the Cremartin boys. It was in the third quarter that the game slipped away from the Eire Og boys with Cremartin holding our lads scoreless,and tagging on 1-2 themselves. Try as they did in the final quarter Eire Og could not make inroads into the home team’s lead and it ended Cremartin 4-8 Eire Og 2-8. Even in defeat this was a much improved performance from our lads and they can look forward with confidence to their next game which is at home to Drumhowan on May 31st. Panel on duty was Michael Cadden, Ryan Corley,Darragh Hamill,Robert Haynes,Donal Leonard,Kian McAree,Leon McCabe,Kyle McAree,Nathan McCabe,Dillon McCaffrey,Stephen McCluskey,Jamie McMahon,AdamMurtagh,Brendan Reilly and Caine Toal. Social Dance/Jiving: Tickets are now on sale from all Ladies Committee members and players for the Jiving/Social Dance event which will take place on this Friday May 23rd in Smithborough Hall at 9:30pm. Tickets are only €8 each. Music is by Midnight Cowboy with Supper being served and all proceeds go to the Eire Og Ladies. A great opportunity for all the local jiving experts to show off their moves and at the same time support our very successful Eire Og footballers of the fairer sex. See you all there. Girls Under 12s’: Our Under 12s’ had their first outing of the season when they took part in the County Blitz in Cloghan on Saturday morning last. With five games to be played it was a busy but successful morning for the girls. The Eire Og panel was Shannen McMahon,Lisa Murtagh,Ciara McCaffrey,Lauren Brady,Hannah Hughes,Hannah Mealiff,Fearne Monahan,Aine Mohan,Eva Connolly,Una Boylan,Ciara Smith,Orna Connolly and Ruth Douglas. Training continues for this group. Check with Mary or Siobhan for times. Under 14s’: Eire Og Under 14s’ made the trip to Aughnamullen on Monday May 12th to try to continue on their unbeaten run in the 2014 league. With five of our team on the injured list we travelled with the bare minimum and when injury forced another of our team of the field of play it was always going to be an uphill battle as the opposition chose to continue with the extra player. With a couple of our players leg-weary from an earlier school game Aughnamullen pulled away in the latter stages and ended up comfortable winners. On Monday of this week we had neighbours Killeevan as visitors to Railway Park. After a keenly contested first half we found ourselves in arrears 1-5 to 1-3 at half-time. It was a totally different story in the second half as the Eire Og girls returned to something like their true form and ran out convincing winners on the score of 2-10 to 1-6. Overall a very impressive showing from our girls, especially in the second half when our defence held the Killeevan girls to a solitary point. With a number of our causalities due back shortly we would be hopeful that this squad will be in the shakeup come season’s end. Under 16s’: We had Doohamlet as visitors on Thursday evening last. With the opposition being short a number of regulars, the game ended in a rather one-sided affair with Eire Og running out convincing winners.
Magheracloone Notes
Lotto Results. The numbers drawn in the Club Lotto on Monday, 12th May were 5, 9, 24 and 28. The jackpot was not won this week and the Lucky Dip winners were Shane , Laura and Gavin McDaniel, Leo Marron, 8, Magheross, ( Direct Debit), Jimmy Lee and Frankie Kieran, Feahoe, ( Direct Debit). The next draw will take place in the clubrooms on Monday 19th May and the Jackpot will be 2,600 euro. Senior Competitions. The senior team had its first outing in the senior championship for 2014 with a preliminary round clash versus Currin. The first half in Clontibret proved to be a close affair but the Magheracloone team really clicked into gear in the second half and emerged comprehensive winners on a score of 2-19 to 1-7. Magheracloone will now face Latton in the first round proper. This game will not be played for a number of weeks as the senior county team will begin the Ulster campaign soon. However, the league campaign continued on this Wednesday with an away game in Castleblayney. The Reserves are in action twice over the coming week with a game in Corduff versus Scotstown on Sunday at 12.30 followed by a visit to Latton on Wednesday 28th for a match which begins at 8.00.p.m. Under-16. The Under 16s had a fine victory last week over St. Patrick’s in a high scoring encounter and will hope to continue this fine run when the team visit Scotstown on Thursday evening. This game is timed to start at 7.30. p.m. Under-14. The Under-14 team travelled to Inniskeen and in another high scoring game Magheracloone came out on top with the final score reading 2-17 to 3-21. . Under-12. The Under-12 league finals will take place in Cloghan this week-end. This feast of football will feature the cream of Monaghan’s under 12 teams and Magheracloone will feature in a final encounter against Aughnamullen in the early afternoon. The game begins at 1.00 p.m. and the young people from the club would really appreciate all support possible. They are the future of the club and they have worked hard to reach this milestone. Come along and support this team in their quest for silverware on behalf of the club.

It was essential that the lads bounced back well after the previous weeks set back in Emyvale. The 1-16 to 3-05 win keeps us in the top 4 and sets up a crucial away match against Carrickmacross.

Senior Championship: Scotstown made a winning start to their championship title defence on Saturday last against Truagh Gaels. It was a tight contest right through the 60 minutes and it took an injury time goal through Paul Grant to make the result safe for Scotstown in the end. Rory Beggan had converted a ʺ45 ̏ to leave Scotstown 7pts to 6 ahead at half time. Both teams had been on level terms on three occasions, where Truagh led once in the early stages of 2nd half, but with scores through Conor McCarthy, Darren Hughes, Shane Carey and our midfield dominance from David McCague & Francis Caulfield carried them through to the next round of the championship. Then on Saturday 31st May away to Magheracloone at 7pm (this fixture will be played in Inniskeen) Reserve League DIV 1: Our B team will be away to Magheracloone on Sunday 25th May at 12.30pm. This match will be played in Corduff on Sunday. They follow this up with a home league match on 4th June against Latton. O’ Duffy Cup: Quarter finals on Sunday 8th June away to Ballybay at 3.30pm (ET if required) Junior League: Last night (Wed 21st May) our third team were away to Toome. On Sunday last they nearly upset the league leaders Killanny with another fine performance and probably at least deserved a draw for their efforts, they trailed at the break by 8pts to 6 with Elliott Maguire (3), Mark McDevitt, Jason Carey and Sean Mohan registering first half scores. A good start to the second half saw Scotstown in front on 35th minute, with a point from Sean Mohan and a goal from Elliott Maguire made it 1-7 to 8pts. They even created other opportunities to extend their advantage but Killanny turned things around and led by 4pts in the closing stages. Sean Mohan goal on 56th minute was the closest we got to the league leaders as the game came to end on a score of 2-7 to 14pts.
