Castleblayney reclaimed the Monaghan Senior Hurling League title from holders Inniskeen at a wet and windy Latton Sunday September 14th
Playing with the aid of a strong breeze Castleblayney raced into a two point lead in as many minutes before Inniskeen registered a point of their own through a Niall Arthur free. Brian Minogue raised the first green flag of the afternoon when he rifled low past Fergal Rafter to leave the scoreline 1-1 to 0-02, but that was as good as it got for Inniskeen as Castleblayney hit a purple patch of scores nearing the half through Niall Garland, Thomas Hughes, Leo Moloney and Mark Treanor to leave the scoreline 0-12 to 1-02 at halftime.
Half time substitute Tim McArdle found the net to leave it 1-14 to 1-04 on the 40th minute before Inniskeens goalkeeper Gerard Ruddy denied Leo Moloney from the spot, after Brian Flanagan was hauled down in the six-yard box, to keep them in the hunt. A couple of Niall Arthur frees reduced the deficit but scores from substitute Brian McGuigan and Thomas Hughes Castleblayney ran out deserving winners on a score line of 1-19 to 1-08 in a game that failed to ignite.
