The draw for the A.M Sports Monaghan Senior Hurling Championship took place this morning.

Speaking on a new structure for the 2025 Hurling Championship, Hurling Officer Patrick Hannon said  “When our Hurling committee met back in January we looked at an overview of our competitions for the year. We tweaked the Senior Hurling League which extended it out to Nine rounds this year involving 10 teams and looked at restructuring the Championship. In the last number of years clubs are going from the Mick Hannon League into a Senior League and then Championship that was also ran in league format. The feedback from clubs was a return to open draw “knockout hurling” to bring back that bit of spice that Championship should bring! Having 7 teams in Monaghan leaves an open draw a little tricky so it was decided that whatever team was sitting in first place following the final round of SHL will receive a bye to the SHC Semis, with the remaining 6 teams into a hat for the Quarter-Final draw. The three Q/F winners progress to the SHC Semis with the three losers heading into the Junior Championship. The SHL will have a bearing on this section also as the team here who placed the highest of the three will receive a bye to the Junior final…and a playoff between the two others will decide their opponents”

Castleblayney receives a bye to the SHC Semi-Finals as first placed team in the SHL following the round-robin section (July 31st)
