Intermediate Championship

Our final group match was against Toome in Pairc Eanna last Sunday afternoon and a match that had been a great tussle for the first half an hour saw us begin to pull away in the early stages of the second half only for proceedings to be halted prematurely by a serious injury to Toome’s captain after 44 minutes. This followed shortly after another Toome player was forced to leave the field with a leg injury. Incidents like this certainly put our sport into perspective and we send our best regards to both players for speedy recoveries from their injuries.

We took an early lead after Cillian Leegan found net the after 6 minutes, but Toome hit the next 3 points to level things after 14 mins. Eddie Walsh & Callum Murray converted scores before a Toome free brought it back to a 1-point game on 24 mins. A big moment arrived then when Toome were awarded a penalty only for Kian Duffy to go full stretch and make a great save. Toome managed a point from the rebound but a strong 1st half finish from us with points from Mark Grimes & Killian Collins (2) saw us go in at the break 3 points up. Toome had been reduced to 14-men just on the stroke of half-time when their full back saw black and we certainly capitalised on this as Collins picked up where he left off and hit two great scores early in the second half to extend our lead to 5. An Eddie Walsh free followed before Toome pulled one back from play after 37 mins but Danny Leegan got in on the act to convert nicely from distance to extend the gap to 6. The move of the match came then a minute later when Dean Connolly found space to dance in behind the Toome defence and finish low to the net. Killian Collins who was having one of those days when he just couldn’t miss, scored his 5th point of the afternoon to leave it 2-10 to 0-07. As a result of the abandonment, we have been awarded the points and now advance to the quarter final where we will face Castleblayney in 2 weeks time.

U-17’s

Hard luck to our U-17’s in their round 2 Championship match against Corduff last weekend – 3 quick-fire goals from Corduff saw them run out 5-07 to 1-12 winners. Next up is an away game in Clontibret on Sunday 1st October.

U-15’s

The big day for our Div 5B squad is this Sunday when we play Scotstown in the Championship final in Cremartin at 12.00pm – the very best of luck lads. Also good luck to our Div 1 squad in their Championship semi-final match away to Aughnamullen this Friday – throw-in is at 7.30pm and match is under lights in Aughnamullen.

U-13’s

Hard luck to our U-13’s who lost out to a strong Eire Og side in the Div 4 Cup final last Sunday – the future is certainly bright!

Condolences

Killanny GFC & Killanny Ladies GFC would like to offer Peter Marron and the whole Marron family our sincere condolences on the passing of Peter’s mother Denise last week. May she rest in peace.

Killanny Ladies

Well done to our U-12 girls who won the Div 4 league final last week with a 6-04 tp 4-03 victory over Castleblayney. What a night it was in Corduff in very tough conditions!

Well done to our Senior ladies on victory over Aughnamullen last Friday night.
