Under 17s

On Monday last our Under 17 Scotstown A side faced Castleblayney for the 3rd time this year, and the 2 sides produced another classic thrilling encounter, but unfortunately our minors lost by the narrowest of margins. Scotstown had started strongly and were 5 points up after 15 minutes with 2 superb goals and well placed points making the score 2-4 to 0-5. The Blues maintained their lead in the first half and added 2 further fine points giving them a 4 point lead at 2-6 to 0-8 at half time. Castleblayney started the second half strongly and reduced their deficit to just 1 point after 6 minutes. Then 2 quick goals gave Castleblayney the lead after 15 minutes, but Scotstown responded strongly and had reduced the margin to just a point with 10 minutes to go making the score 2-11 to 2-12. The last 10 minutes were tense has both sides determinedly sought to secure the win and going into injury time Scotstown levelled the game again with a superb point. However Blayney scored their decisive point a minute later. In final minutes the minors pressed for the equaliser and unfortunately the ball hit the upright twice and time ran out, making the final score Scotstown 2-13 Castleblayney 2-14. Hard luck to the minors, but well done on a superb performance and brilliant 2023 campaign. Congratulations to Castleblayney and all the best in the final. Thanks to Emyvale GAA for hosting the game.

Our Under 17 Scotstown B team had no games in the past week.

Under 18 Girls

Our Under 18 girls team have qualified for the U18 Championship final. Well done to the team and management in their superb win against Castleblayney away in the U18 LGFA Championship Semi Final on Saturday evening last. This was an exciting, high scoring end to end game, with both sides taking significant leads during the game. After 12 minutes Castleblayney were leading by 5 points 2-1 to 0-2, but within 6 minutes Scotstown made a quick and sharp comeback and took the lead by 4 points with 2 superb goals. However within a further 10 minutes Castleblayney came back strongly and took a significant 8 point lead, before Scotstown pulled a point back making the half time score Scotstown 2-6 Castleblayney 5-4. Within the first 3 minutes of the second half, the sides were level after 2 superb goals and a point by Scotstown. For the next 10 minutes there was an unusual barren spell of no scores as both sides drew their breath from the high tempo encounter. Both sides then traded points and with 10 minutes remaining the game was evenly matched at Scotstown 4-9 Castleblayney 5-6. Scotstown scored an excellent goal, giving the Blues the lead again, but Castleblayney equalised 3 minutes later with a goal. In the last 5 minutes of normal time Scotstown applied

brilliant pressure and were rewarded with 2 well placed points before Scotstown scored the decisive brilliant goal in the last minute securing the Minor final spot. Congratulations and well done to the team and management. They next play in the final against either Carrickmacross or Tyholland. We wish them all the best in the final.
