Intermediate League:  Toome played Monaghan Harps in the relegation play off on Tuesday last 25th July. This was a tightly contested match and although it was not pretty, the matched was played in good spirits with a high tempo. Some good play seen Toome take an early lead with a point from James that was quickly followed up with a goal from paddy after a great ball in from Frank and the final pass from James that was cooly slotted home. A point from the Harps, then it was Paddy again followed by Jason and William extending the lead to six points. Some good kick outs and breaking ball allowed the home side to get the upper hand. Harps were to score again and then William had to come off as he took an elbow to the nose in a contested tackle, Harps were to score again and there backs were up, with a further four before the break. HT Score: Toome 1:04 – 0:06 Harps. The second half was a tense and nervy affair, Toome were not as accurate with the kickouts and the Harps capitalised on this, although Toome always looked the better team it was not evident that this was going to go the way of the home side. Gary was first up in the second with a score only for the Harps to pull two back and it was all square. James dug deep and it was a point to the good for Toome, Harps were having none of it and were winning the breaking ball, two unanswered scores put the visitors ahead by one. William levelled and Frank was on target with a free to put the home side in front once more, it was cat a mouse in the last minutes of the game with the Harps missing a chance in front of the sticks to level the match and bring it to extra time, Toome had one last burst and it was a clever ball in from Jason to Shane who played the quick pass to Tom who was in open space to slot the ball over for the final score of the game, to much relief. FT Score: Toome 1:09 – 0:10 Monaghan Harps. Well done to the team and management.
