Intermediate Championship: Last Sunday evening our Seniors travelled to Carrickmacross for round 3 of the Intermediate Championship. Conor Forde opened the scoring with a fine 45 which was backed up by a Niall Mc Kenna point from play. During the early exchanges Robbie Mc Allister pulled up with a strain and was substituted by Danny Mc Mahon with Carrick getting a lucky break during this period and replied with an opportunist goal to go a point ahead. Emyvale were calm and Karl Gallagher was asserting his influence more and drew Emyvale level with a good point from play. Both sides picked off points with Ben Ryan scoring from a fine run down the right wing, a give and go, before fisting over the bar. Carrick pegged on another point, but then Niall Mc Kenna kicked a score, that not many could, from the right wing off the outside of the boot to leave it 1:02-0:05. Karl Gallagher scored what could have been an awkward free, giving the changing breeze, to put Emyvale a point ahead before Carrick replied to leave the sides level at halftime at 1:03-0:06. Harvey Colleran came on for Aaron Loughran at the start of the second half due to Aaron suffering a tweek and immediately got into the thick of it. Niall Mc Kenna scored the first Emyvale point of the half from play with Karl Gallagher scoring a hard won free to leave the score 1:04-0:08 to Emyvale. Carrick replied and they were level again after 11 mins into the second half. Emyvale drove forward with Michael Hamill a constant thorn in the Carrick sides and got some joy with Stephen Askin scoring a free from the right side. Alistair Stewart also came up with an excellent point from midfield to put Emyvale up by two points. Once again Carrick replied before Karl Gallagher stroked over a free into a tough breeze. Emyvale tails were up and Greg Devlin pushed up from defence to drill over a well worked point to leave a three point gap. Emyvale were making goal chances, but they just weren’t coming together. David Duffy came on for the hard working Aidan Mc Kenna and Carrick pulled

back two points in succession before another Niall Mc Kenna point from play to keep the gap to two points. However, Carrick used the strong breeze well and scored four points without reply before Stephen Askin scored Emyvale’s last point from play. There was one play left and the ever determined Michael Hamill was very unfortunate not to grasp the win for Emyvale with the last rasping shot of the game, the Carrick keeper getting a glance of a hand to force the ball off the crossbar and back into play to leave a final score of Carrick 1:12-0:14 Emyvale. A tough loss but still plenty to play for and the championship is well and truly alive!

The next fixture is Saturday 9th at home to Killanny at 6pm.
