Clontibret Notes 06.07.2023

July 6th, 2023

Senior Championship

The senior championship will follow the same format as the last couple of years. The draws were made on Monday and placed us in a group with Magheracloone, Donaghmoyne, Inniskeen and Scotstown. We play those teams respectively on the weekends of 13th August, 20th August, 9th September and 16th September, with a bye on the weekend of 26th August.

Senior League

Clontibret 0-11 Donaghmoyne 2-10

Despite a solid first half performance we failed to maintain the momentum and ended up losing by five. The final league game is on Saturday 1st July with Latton at O’Neill Park at the earlier time of 5pm with quarter finals and play offs postponed due to Monaghan’s involvement in All Ireland semi-final against Dublin.

Reserve B Football

We play Blayney on Tuesday next with the last game against Inniskeen the following week.

Reserve C Football

We had an excellent 3-9 to 0-8 win over Scotstown in the league on Tuesday. Next up is away to to Carrick on Friday 7th at 8pm.

All Ireland Semi Final

Another great day for Monaghan football in Croke Park on Saturday last with a heart stopping but sweet victory over near neighbours Armagh. Well done to Vinny, Marty, and the whole squad especially our representatives Conor Boyle and Killian Lavelle who started and Conor McManus who came on and helped turn things around with a magnificent display of shooting, and Francis Hughes and Darren McDonnell who were on standby.

All Ireland Minor Final

Best wished to Nathan Coyle and the Monaghan minors who face Derry in the All-Ireland final in Armagh on Sunday 9th July at 1pm. Remember tickets must be purchased in advance, so get your ticket and come along to support the boys on this historic occasion.

Player of the Week

Major congratulations to Conor McManus who was voted Player of the Week following his stunning display in the All-Ireland quarter final against Armagh on Saturday. Conor came on in the fortieth minute and scored four points including winning and scoring the crucial equaliser to send the game to penalties. He then led the penalty shoot out scoring one to left and one to the right to help seal a memorable victory and send us to an All-Ireland semi-final on Saturday week against Dublin.  Well done Conor.
