Intermediate: Last Friday evening saw our senior team make the journey to Carrickmacross to take on the home side on a warm evening that sapped energy and didn’t really liven up to the latter stages. In a tense and largely defensive game, scores were at a premium. The home side went into the halftime break leading 0:5-0:2 with Conor Forde (free) and Niall McKenna (Mark) providing the Emyvale scores. Both sides packed the defense areas and Emyvale found it hard to break the defensive line of the physically large Carrick team at times. The second half was still compact on the field, and it was hard to maneuver a scoring opportunity. Aidan McKenna opened our second half scoring with a point from play, followed by a Niall McKenna Free. A phase of play culminating in a nice point from a cut in off the shoulder move from Aarron Loughran was backed up by

another Niall McKenna Free saw us cut a 6-point deficit to 3. Carrick kept their noses Infront and were made to work hard for their final couple of points with some stern Emyvale defense before Robbie McAllister scored a fine point from play with our last score a late point from a free by Harvey Colleran. Emyvale pushed hard for that goal to level matters with Robbie McAllister and David Duffy coming close, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. Final score; Carrickmacross 0:11-0:8 Emyvale.

Although we were missing a raft of players the management have largely stuck to their principles and once again gave youth the nod which will bear fruit in the coming season and year ahead with lots of players getting valuable experience at Intermediate level. Next fixture is on Friday evening at home to Killanny at 8pm. All support greatly appreciated.

U13’s: Training resumes Monday and Thursday nights from 7 to 8pm. The guys had another good win last week against Killeevan – super performance – well done and now top the Division 3 league. They also had a brilliant weekend at the prestigious Cooley Tournament, a fantastic day of football. The team got out of their group and played Ballina from Mayo in the knockout section. But unfortunately, they were too strong, and the lads were knocked out. Many thanks to Cooley Kickhams for the invite. Back to league action – the lads are out this Thursday away to Latton. County news: what an achievement last Saturday by our County Minor team in Leitrim against a very strong Mayo side, with a score line of 1-16 to 1-08, it showed how much the lads were in the driving seat. The guys took control from the first minute and Andrew, Matthew and Johnnie all togged out with Matthew’s performance putting him in the running the Minor player of the week. Andrew put in two critical defensive blocks to relieve pressure and allow Monaghan to counter at a time when Mayo were pressing hard. Well done to everyone involved. Next up is an unbelievable All Ireland Semifinal V Kerry on June 24th. Venue to be confirmed. Well done to Niall McKenna who refereed the Dublin v Cork All-Ireland Minor quarter final. Great to see Moe back at high level games and hopefully a steppingstone to greater things. On Saturday evening our Senior County team face a more stable Donegal team in the final round of the All-Ireland group stage. Although Monaghan are already qualified to at least a preliminary quarter final, it is very possible for Monaghan to top the group and go straight to quarter finals. The best of luck to Karl and Ryan on Saturday.
