All Ireland Senior County Football Championship Group Stages – Round 3 Result Monaghan 0-17 Donegal 0-19

The Monaghan Senior team played Donegal in Round 3 of Group 4 of the All Ireland Senior Football Championship on Saturday last in Healy Park, Omagh. This was the final round of the group stages and top spot in the group was up for grabs if the Farney men defeated Donegal by more points than Derry defeating Clare. Despite a strong comeback in the later part of the second half Monaghan couldn’t overturn a 6 point margin Donegal created by the start of the Second half. Hard luck to the team and management but well done in their fortitude and resilience to nearly tie the game at the end. Well done to our Blues that played Rory Beggan, Shane Carey, Darren Hughes, Kieran Hughes, Jack McCarron, Conor McCarthy and Ryan O’Toole, with superb scores by Jack McCarron (top scorer with 0-5, 3 from free, 1 from mark), and Darren Hughes (0-2).

Monaghan have finished 3rd in the group on 3 points. The top three in each group advance to the knockout stages; first-place teams to the All-Ireland quarter-finals, and second- and third-placed teams to the preliminary quarter-finals. The four second-placed teams play against the third-placed teams in the preliminary quarter-finals. The winners of the preliminary quarter-finals advance to play the group winners in the All-Ireland quarter-finals. Two semi-finals and a final follow. All matches are knock-out. Monaghan were drawn to play Kildare away in the preliminary Quarter Final. This game takes place this Saturday 23rd June in Tullamore at 4:45pm as part of a double header of the Monaghan Minor All Ireland Semi Final v Kerry which throws in at 2:30pm

Scór agus Cultúr

Scostown success at the Spraoi Scór!

Thanks to our Cultural Officer for the following report.

Scotstown club had excellent participation in the County finals of Scór na bPaisti (spraoi scor) which were held last weekend. On Thursday night in the Iontas Centre Castleblayney, two quiz teams represented our club. Team one consisting of Daithi Og McCague, Padraig McDwyer, Cayla McGinnitty and Aoife McArdle and they took bronze behind Latton in first and Monaghan Harps in second. Our second team of Harry Casey, Ultan Gallagher, Cait Clerkin and Katie Mullen finished a point behind in fourth place. Well done to both teams!

On Friday night in Clontibret in the stage events took place. Our dancers, Leah Treanor, Nicole Bennett, Ellie Meehan, Nadine McCarra, Catherine Meehan Abi Corrigan, Joshua

Mullen and Peter Mc Carra claimed gold with Gael Triucha in second and Killeevan third. The same eight dancers also won the Set dancing.

In instrumental music, our team of Mia Cusack Anne Keyes, Ellie Coney Abi Corrigan and Rachel O’connor had to be content with third place, despite giving an excellent performance, with Monaghan Harps first and Sean McDermotts second.

In Recitation Emma McKenna was an energy saving star and claimed first place with an exceptional performance of diction and action. The poem, written by Alice Daly called “The three wee Pigs” cleverly told how one could save energy and save money while building their house. The cultural officer would like to congratulate all who stepped forward to represent their club. Thanks to the coaches especially Ciara Connolly with the dancers. Nial O’connor Clare Daly and Teresa Mohan. Also to the parents for their efforts and loyalty to the promotion of Scor and Culture in our club. We hope to see this talented bunch represent our club for many years to come. An Bhoth abú.
