Intermediate League

We made the trip to Monaghan Harps last Sunday with the home side hungry for their first points of the year. It was a cagey opening 10 minutes with both sides sussing each other out but we could and should have been 6 or 7 points up with 3 bad wides and a couple of goal chances going a-begging. Points were exchanged then from placed balls before Eddie Walsh snuck in behind the Harps defence to slot home a goal on 18 minutes. Harps responded with another free which was cancelled out by an Eddie Walsh free before Callum Murray flicked over a good score to put us a goal up with halftime approaching. The final score of the half went to the home side who were finding it difficult against our defence. Leading 1-03 to 0-04 on the restart, Danny Leegan restored our 3-point lead with a good effort. Stephen McMahon came in then for the injured Kyle Connolly and his first touch was to slot the ball over the bar. We were having a good spell early in the 2nd half and an Eddie Walsh free put us 1-05 to 0-04 up. However, Harps started to gain a foothold in the game thwarting our attacks and hitting us on the counter and over the next 10 minutes they hit 3 points without reply to leave just 2 in it. Ronan Grimes then had a great chance then to hit the Harps net but his shot was blocked down. Gavin Flanagan was introduced for the final quarter and his impact was immediate, converting 2 great frees from wide on the right. Then Flanagan rose highest to grab a high ball in and call a great Mark, which he duly converted to leave the score 1-09 to 0-08 with 5 mins to play. Harps came at us again though and chipped away with 2 more scores but our defence stood firm and we saw the game out to win by 2…. final score Killanny 1-09, Harps 0-10

Next up we are at home to Toome on Friday 9th June.
