Adult County Doubles & Master Competitions.

Congratulations to Damien Mc Rory & John Mc Carron who won the “Novice A Doubles County Final” last Thursday where they defeated Michael & Robbie Duffy from Carrrickmacross in Carrrickmacross 21-13, 21-19, taking the first game with a commanding score the Carrick men responded very nearly forcing a tie-breaker but the Mellans pair held on to land the title, this capped a very successful year for both players within club & county, well done men, also on Thursday evening in St.Mellans the “Master’s A Singles” county final was played, there John Treanor took on Paul Cassidy, the first game was nip & tuck and could have went anyway but Paul pipped John to it 21-16, but the second game was all Paul’s as he ran away with it and landed the title 21-1, there just wasn’t enough charge in John’s battery to last the 2 games but still another got season John and well done Paul, that wraps up the season now on all fronts both young and old, well done to all the winners throughout the year but more importantly well done to all for taking part in the handball season.

Summer Social Play.

There will be some social “leisurely” play over the summer, starting on Mondays & Wednesdays from 7-8:30, then all will see when it goes after if it will turn into a league as it progresses.

Go raibh maith agat. That wraps up another busy handball season, the committee would like to thank everyone connected within and outside the club that keeps all aspects running along all year, again nothing would be possible without the continued support from all our

sponsors, Truwood Ltd, Mono Furniture, Robert O Reilly Engineering, Treanor Memorials, The Scarna Inn, OakBeech Construction, Tunnel Kerr, Errigal Sports and Hollands of Emyvale. On the play, internally we had juvenile coaching, ran singles & doubles leagues, outside the club we participated in U10 up to U17 county championships then Ulster and onto the All-Ireland series, also entering teams in Gael Linn, Feile na nGael, Irish Nationals and had club members participate in Cumann Na mBunscol & Colleges Handball representing their schools, and took part in Ulster Beginner Blitz’s early in the season, in the adults we ran the league, singles and doubles competitions and completed our first Ladies Open, outside the club we participated in county championships both singles & doubles, entered Ulster championships Men & Ladies entered the Ulster Team Championship and entered Juveniles and adults in “She’s Ace” and Golden Gloves, another full season with some great victories on the way!!, to all who help out in anyway with running leagues both young and old and keep under control and to all parents who are a constant presence for the juvenile coaching and games, thank you, to “The Northern Standard” who every week carry our stories of “highs & Lows” throughout the season and gives us such good exposure during our playing season, thank you!, any finally to all the players young and old without players there is no club, and the club continues to grow from strength to strength, we already are looking forward to the new year with more ideas, competitions and outings planned, with the refurb completion of the 60 X 30 old alley and the 50th anniversary approaching it will be a busy future and we hope as many as possible will part of the journey, again thanks to everyone that helps in any way to keep the club alive, no matter how big or how small the contribution it is all part of the club, gach dunie le cheile, nios laidre, slan agus go raibh maith agat!!.
