Feile na nGael Teams ’23.

Saturday morning past 8 young club men took part in this year’s Feile na nGael competition,

Myles Mc Meel, Harry Treanor, Enda Mc Anenly & Odhran Mc Meel took part in division 2 in Aughagower Co. Mayo and Ciaran Treanor, Fintan Treanor, Senan Treanor, Fiachra Kelly fielded in division 4 in Newport Co. Mayo, the D2 team faced Greencastle Co. Tyrone, Kilkishen Co. Clare and Inis Mor Co. Galway, the boys played very well throughout but “Lady Luck” just didn’t visit the team on the day, in the first game the faced Greencastle and fell to a 38-14 defeat, next they played Kil-kishen from Clare, played well but just again never got into a rhythm and lost 42-9, finally they played eventual tournament winners in Inis Mor, the boys definitely pulled a better game out of the bag but no enough to win and they lost it 39-20, it was just one of those days that it never material-ised, but still a great performance from all on the day, then in Newport the D4 team faced home club Newport Co. Mayo and our neighbours Loughmacrory Co. Tyrone, having lost the opening game to a steady Loughmacrory team the boys then faced Newport, and with Fiachra suffering an injury his partner Ciaran pulled his best game out of the bag but just fell short 11-17, then Senan & Fintan played and got it back with a 17-11 victory with some superb play from the off but not enough to win, everyone in Newport had commented on how the boys had performed so well throughout, and the boys in Aughagower also putting in valiant performances all around, having watched the boys train over the last few weeks the amount they had improved was brilliant, not only in the basic skills of handball but they way the applied themselves in the alley and how their confidence improved, and the way they played on the day showed that improvement, well boys all should be very proud of how you done, because the results don’t tell the whole story, and to those who are age for it next year and some have two years the experience is priceless, a big thanks to all that helped out and to all that travelled down on the day we also hope that you also enjoyed the trip west!!!, role on ’24.
