Aughnamullen Club Notes 11.05.2023

May 13th, 2023

Pride of The Parish: Pride of the Parish must surely go to our Under 15 team who on Saturday afternoon won the Division 1 Féile tournament in Cloghan. They had to overcome a tough Magheracloone side in the preliminary round, which was followed by a brilliant win over Killanny in the Semi Final to set up a final with Castleblayney. The boys built up a great lead at half time, a lead which Castleblayney clawed back in the second half but the Aughnamullen boys showed serious grit to hold out and create history by winning division 1 crown. They will now represent Monaghan in the John West Féile tournament in Mayo on Saturday the 1st of the July. A huge congratulations to the team and management team of Gerard McGeough, Brian McArdle, Patrick Geoghegan and Colm McGeough.

Lotto: The lotto was held on Sunday night last. There was no winner. The numbers drawn were 2,7,9 & 18. This week’s jackpot rises to €6,900. Seniors: Our senior team hosted Clontibret in the third round of the Senior League on Sunday afternoon, where they were beaten on a scoreline of 0-16 to 0-04. From the off this was a game where there only ever looked to be one winner, with the visitors showing their class from the start. Points from Jason Duffy and Colin Clerkin in the first half left us four points behind at the break at 0-06 to 0-02. A glimmer of hope was found after the restart when we reeled off the two opening scores of the second half through a free from Tiernan Duffy and another from Clerkin. However, this was to be as close as we got, and Clontibret, with the help of a dubious point, began a surge of ten unanswered points to put the game beyond doubt and run out comfortable winners. Our next game is away to Scotstown on Wednesday evening the 17th of May at 8pm. Best of luck to the team and management, all support welcome.

Reserves: Our reserves play away to Corduff this evening, Wednesday at 7.45pm. They next play Donaghmoyne in the Quarter Final of the Championship at home on Sunday the 21st of May. Come out and support the lads, best of luck to the team and management.
