Ulster Senior County Football Championship Semi Final – Monaghan 2-10 Derry 1-21

Monaghan’s 2023 Ulster campaign came to an end on a balmy April evening in Omagh last Saturday when the lost 1-21 to 2-10 against a strong Derry side in the Ulster Senior Championship Semi Final. Hard luck to the Farney men and our Blues on the panel Rory Beggan, Shane Carey, Darren Hughes, Kieran Hughes, Jack McCarron, Conor McCarthy, Michael McCarville, and Ryan O’Toole. Well done to Rory Beggan who scored 2 superb frees and Kieran Hughes who scored an excellent point from play. Monaghan have earned 3rd place seeding in the All Ireland group stage and are guaranteed 3 more games in late May and June.

Our Blues Competitive Games in the past week

Under 13s

The 2023 Under 13 League commenced last weekend with Round 1 played by all 4 of our Under 13 teams. Hard luck to our Scotstown A team who lost 3-12 to 1-12 to Monaghan Harps at home. Hard luck to our Scotstown B team who narrowly lost by 1 point to Aughnamullen away, 6-4 to 2-15. Hard luck to the Scotstown C team who lost 0-17 to 1-6 to Monaghan Harps at home. Well done to the Scotstown D team in their 3-5 to 0-7 win against Carrickmacross at home on Sunday last. The Under 13 teams’ next game is on Saturday May 13th in Round 2 of the Under 13 league. The Scotstown A team play Magheracloone away in Division 1 at 11:00am. The Scotstown B team play Clontibret at home in Division 2 at 11:00am. The Scotstown C team play Magheracloone away in Division 5 at 12:30pm and the Scotstown D team play Inniskeen away in Division 6 at 2:30pm.

Under 15s

Hard luck to our Under 15 Division 1 boys in their home defeat to Magheracloone in Round 4 of the U15 Division 1 League on Wednesday last. They next play Castleblayney away in Round 5 of the U15 Football League Division 1 Round game in Páirc Mhuire this Thursday May 4th at 7:30pm.

Hard luck to our Under 15 Division 5A boys in their home defeat to Carrickacross in Round 4 of the U15 Division 5A League on Friday last. They next play Castleblayney at home in Páirc Mhuire in Round 5 of the U15 Football Division 5A league this Friday May 5th at 7:30pm.

Under 18s

Hard luck to our U18 Division 1 boys in their loss in a high scoring 8-11 to 5-16 game against Emyvale away in Round 4 of the U18 Division 1 on Tuesday of last week. They next play Castleblayney at home this Friday 5th May in Round 5. Our Under 18 Division 3 boys had no games in the past week. They next play Na Mullai Sarsfields in the U18 Division 3 Round 7 game on Tuesday 2nd May at 7:30pm

McKeown Cup

Our Junior reserves commenced their 2023 Reserve Championship in the preliminary round away to Inniskeen in the McKeown Cup on Wednesday last. Well done to the reserves in their superb 3-9 to 1-9 win. The blues started strongly and opened up an 11 point lead, but Inniskeen made a spirited comeback and reduced the deficit to 3 points making the half time score 2-5 to 1-8. The Blues mirrored their start to the second half as their first and increased their advantage to 10 points by 17 minutes with a scoreline of 3-9 to 1-5. Inniskeen responded strongly again and reduced their deficit to 6 points but the Blues held firm and finished out the game with the winning scoreline of 3-9 to 1-9.

Senior Division 1A Reserves

Our Senior 1A Reserves had no games in the past week. They next play Truagh at home on Wednesday 10th May at 7:45pm in the Round 4 Platinum Tanks Reserve League Football Division 1A game.

Junior Division 3A Reserves

Our Junior 3A Reserves had no games in the past week. They next play Castleblayney away on Wednesday 3rd May at 7:30pm in Round 4 of the Platinum Tanks Reserve League Football Division 3A.

Junior Division 3B Reserves

Our Junior 3B Reserves had no games in the past week. They next play Killanny away in Round 3 on Sunday 14th May at 12:00pm.

Senior Men League

Our Senior Men had no games in the past week. The Senior men next play Corduff away on Saturday 6th May at 6:00pm in round 3 of the Senior League.

Junior Men’s League

Our Junior Men had no games in the past week. They next play Currin at home on Sunday 14th May at 4:00pm in round 3 of the Junior League.

Senior Ladies

Our Senior Ladies had no games in the past week. They next play Killanny away in Round 7 of the Senior Ladies Reserve League Division 2 on Sunday 14th May at 11:00am.

Under 18 Girls

Our Under 18 girls commence their 2023 competitive campaign this week. The Under 18 Division 1 team play Emmett Og away this Thursday 4th May at 7:00pm in Round 1 of the Under 18 league Division 1. We wish the management and players all the best for this year.

Under 16 Girls

Our Under 16 girls had no games in the past week. Our Under 16 Division 2 girls had no games in the past week. They next play Sean McDermotts at home in Round 4 of the Under 16 girls Division 2 League on Tuesday 16th May at 7:00pm.

Under 14 Girls

Our Under 14 girls had no games in the past week. Our Under 14 Scotstown A girls’ team next play Castleblayney at home on Monday 8th May at 7:00pm in Round 3 of the U14 Division 1 League. Our Under 14 Scotstown B girls’ next play Killeevan at home in Round 3 of the U14 Division 3A league on Tuesday 9th May at 7:00pm.

Monaghan Minors

Hard luck to the Monaghan minors in their 1-14 to 0-6 defeat to Derry away in Owenbeg on Saturday last in the Ulster Championship Group A Round 3 game. They next play Donegal at home in Clones on Saturday 6th May in the Ulster Championship Group A Round 5 game at 1:00pm. All the best to our Blues on the minor panel, Donnchadh Connolly, Darcy Foy, Sean Og McElwain, Max Maguire, Tommy Mallen, and the Monaghan team and management.

Monaghan LGFA Minors

Well done to the Monaghan Minor girls in their 2-13 to 2-10 win over Tyrone at home in the Ulster Minor Championship Tier 1 Round 4 game on Saturday last. The girls finished top of Tier 1 well done to our Blues on the panel Katie McCaffrey, Ella McKenna, and Eabha Sherry, and the team and management.

Monaghan U14 Girls

Well done to the Monaghan U14 girls in their 3-5 to 1-1 win against Donegal at home on Saturday last in the U14 Ulster Festival of football. Hard luck in their 1-6 to 1-4 defeat to Derry on the same day. The next games of the Monaghan County U14 girls Festival of Football league takes place this weekend. Monaghan plays Down on Saturday 29th April at 1:00pm in the Silver Final. We wish our Under 14 player Brannagh Connolly and all the other players and management the very best.

Referee Recruitment

New referees are needed in Co. Monaghan. The number of games played in the county is increasing every year and there is a shortage of active referees. Anyone interested in refereeing at juvenile level should contact any member of the committee. Training and support will be available to any new referees.

Under 10 and Under 8 girls blitz

Well done to our Under 10 and Under 8 girls in the blitz that was held in Kilmore on Saturday morning last. Thanks to all those involved in organising it and to all the teams that took part.

Under 15 Feile Competition

Well done to our 2 Under 15 girls’ teams who participated in the Monaghan U15 Feile Competition in Cloghan on Monday last. Congratulations to our U15 Division 1 team who

won the Division 1 Feile competition. Well done to our U15 Division 3 team who made the Semi finals.

Under 6 Football

The Under 6 boys and girls football starts this Saturday morning at 9:00 in the main field Scotstown. Anyone who would like to volunteer to help out please let some of the organisers know on Saturday morning.

Scotstown Cairde Na Botha wish to thank all those who have supported this historical fundraising project so far. We thank you for your continued support. The aim of Cairde Na Botha is to improve and develop our Kilmore training facilities to help achieve our vision of continuously improving our success on-field for our teams and off-field for our community. The Lord Mayor Campaign in the 1980s to fund the building of Sportlann Mhuire (the complex) and development of St. Marys Park and indeed, the ambitious purchase Of Kilmore in 1995 which has contributed to the outstanding success we achieve today.

New Volunteers requested for Match Days

We are looking for volunteers to help with setting up pitches and dressing rooms for all match days. You will be part of a group of 3 and each group will look after a week of fixtures on a rotational basis. It is worthwhile and enjoyable work for the club.

Health and Wellbeing

Scotstown GAA continues this year with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. We recently had nutritional talks for our U13 to U16 boys and girls’ players and parents. As we now enter the summer months and the football is up and running, we will be implementing Healthy initiatives soon and will update everyone as these happen.

Scotstown GAA Golf Classic

The 2023 Scotstown GAA Golf Classic is on in Rossmore Golf Club on Saturday 15th July Team of 4 with 3 course Dinner €200. Tee sponsorship is100 euros and we over two and a half thousand euro worth of prizes for the event. To book your tee time, phone Shane Stirrat on 086 836 7997.
