Club & Parish Mass

The was a fantastic gathering at our Club Mass in St. Mellans on Friday night past. Many Thanks to Canon Mc Quaid and to Fr Flanagan for celebrating the mass for our deceased members of the club.

Club Membership

Membership is now open online via Clubforce. Paper forms are still available via the club Registrar Shane McKenna. A new price plan is available this year for 2 adult memberships plus 1 line of the yearly Lotto.

All players and coaches must be registered as early as possible. Anyone applying as a new member please contact club registrar Shane on 0871215838 or shanemichaelmckenna@gmail.com.

We would encourage everyone using the club facilities such as the walking track etc. to become a member of the club.

Truagh Ladies Notes:

 

Senior training continues with a good turnout at each session. Management to notify of times.

 

U16 training ongoing with good numbers attending training. Continues Sunday mornings at 10:50am and Wednesday 7.30pm

 

U14 training Continues Thursday evening at 7:15pm and Saturday evening at 5pm.

 

Huge congratulations to Ella McMeel and Lauren Markey on their selection to the Monaghan Minor county team 2023. Their campaign starts with the First Round of the Minor Ulster Ladies Championship which will take place v Antrim this Saturday 4th March. Best of luck to Ella, Lauren and all the team.

Hard luck to Molly Flood and Georgia Breslin and the Monaghan U16 county team as they lost out to a strong Cavan side last Saturday.

Ulster Juvenile Championships. The Ulster Juvenile Championships took centre stage last weekend, there were 3 quarter finals on Saturday in St.Mellans, all played Donegal opposition, all club and county player were victorious, Donnacha Mc Cluskey & Ethan Mc Carron won the boys U17 Doubles, Ava Mc Kenna & Beibhinn Mc Cluskey won the girls U12 Doubles and Odhran Mc Meel sailed through his U13 Singles Quarter, so then Sunday all headed off to Belfast with the boys in Gort Na Mona and the girls in St.Paul’s, first to play were the boys where Shay Mc Kenna played Daire Gault from Antrim in the U12 singles, Shay lost with not playing even close to his best, but Shay almost took the 2nd game levelling at 10-10 but lost 15-6, 15-10, but not to be, in the boys U13 singles we had Odhran Mc Meel, having defeated Mathew Dowds from Donegal on Saturday he dispatched Conor

 

 

Stewart from Antrim in Belfast to progress to the Ulster Final 15-2, 15-9, in the U14 boys singles Harry Treanor lost his semi-final to Adam Mc Gahey 15-8, 15-1, in the boys U15 singles we had Myles Mc Meel, Myles defeated Cormac Walters of Armagh to make the Ulster decider 15-11, 15-11, Enda Mc Anenly was partnering Nathan Regiac(The Harps) in the boys U15 Doubles, unfortunately the boys lost to Oisin Boyle & Gerard Maguire of Antrim 15-11, 15-10, in the boys U16 Doubles Dermott Mc Kenna & Daithi Mc Meel defeated Michael Kennedy & Odhran O Kane of Antrim 15-5, 15-10 to book a place in Sunday’s final and finally in the boys section Donnacha Mc Cluskey partnered with Ethan Mc Carron(The Harps) dispatched Liam Murray & Shea Cunningham from Antrim with some ease 21-0, 21-7 to progress after they had defeat the Donegal pair Oisin Mc Glynn & Seaghan Mc Cormack from Donegal on Saturday, well done boys, we only had one set of girls in action, in the girls U14 doubles Leah Mc Carron & Fionnuala Mohan lost to the Antrim girls Mia Carlin & Cliona Mc Ginley 15-9, 15-0, hard luck girls, the U12 girls of Ava Mc Kenna & Beibhinn Mc Cluskey defeated Riona Mc Intyre & Caoimhe Mc Closkey on Saturday but then early Sunday morning their semi-final was cancelled so we are not sure if it is a re-fix or if they are straight into the final on Sunday yet or not, well done to all that made the finals and hard luck to those that just fell short, all most be commended on how all have trained and the effort from all players leading up to the games, and also thanks to all parents who travelled to Mellans every night and travelled to fixtures throughout the year, also well done to all from other clubs that have made Ulster Finals this Sunday in Beragh Co.Tyrone, play begins at 10pm, good luck to all dawning the “Blue & White”, check FB for photo’s.

 

Juvenile Coaching & Leagues. The juvenile doubles leagues are all still on going, can all players please make a special effort to be there for their games, the coaching sessions for the younger ones on a Monday evening continuing, there has been some disruption to the leagues due to training for Ulster championships, we hope to get all back on track next week.

 

County U10 & U11 Juvenile Championships. Names are in for the county U10/11 county championships, this will be played in the next few weekends, all will be notified in advance, this will be played in St.Mellans, there will also be a plate competition so all players are guaranteed at least 2 games on the day, so keep practicing.

 

Adult Club Doubles. Eoin has the adult club doubles drawn up, Treanor Memorials (D1), The Scarna Inn (D2) and The Hollands Cup (D3), so please double check your time of play, as a “no-show” let’s 3 players down!!!!!!, this and the club ladies open are last remining adult competition of the year so let’s all sign off in style!!!!!!!.

 

 

Ulster Adult Championships. In the adult section there was also a lot of action in Ulster, club man and county chairperson John Treanor played in the Diamond Masters B Singles Ulster Final on Sunday in Kingscoourt, there he defeated Martin Mc Lean from Armagh to take the title, well done John, in the Junior B Singles Ulster Semi-Final Patrick Mc Kenna lost to Diego Di Folco from Cavan, hard luck Patrick, congrats to other county winners in Ulster, Paul Cassidy took the Diamond Masters A title, Gavin Coyle won the Intermediate title and Tiaran O Rourke won the U21 Singles title where he defeated club man Szymon Polewski in the final, a great weekend for the “Farney” county in the alley both young and old.
