Refereeing: Once again we continue to ask for volunteers to put themselves forward for the very rewarding role of refereeing, starting at underage level. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ex-player to continue the match day buzz, for a parent looking to play their part in our games being played in a safe and enjoyable way or simply anyone who would fancy the challenge. There currently is a major shortage of referees in the county and it will come to the point of games not getting played. So come on .. You know you can do it! Ask any committee member or Niall ‘Mo’ McKenna for more details and no obligation. Full training is provided if you decide to try it further.

Monaghan Inter County Teams: What a weekend it was for the 3 competing County Football teams. The County Minor Team started the winning ways off in the Ulster Minor League with 3 Emyvale lads, Andrew Stewart, Matthew Finn and Johnnie Wright all playing their part in a resounding win over Antrim, final score 0:10-4:19. Great to see Johnnie back in action again. The team now sits 2nd in Group B. Next up was the crunch U20 Ulster Championship meeting in Clones between Monaghan and Armagh, Michael Hamill got through a lot of hard work and bore the gift of being double marked for a lot of the game. However, in doing so Michael strategically set up space for others on a day when scores were a premium with Monaghan gaining a fantastic 0:9-0:7 win over a tough Armagh outfit. Next fixture was scheduled to be played last night (Wednesday) away to Cavan. No result at time of print. As we all know by now, our County Senior team

travelled to league highflyers Mayo on Sunday with years of Division 1 football at stake and boy did they not disappoint! Pointing to the changes made on the Mayo team is disrespectful to a marvelous Monaghan display, as this Mayo team were full of talent and each player pushing for a league final and possible championship place and were determined not to be pushed over. However, Monaghan were full of grit, guile and determination. It was fantastic to see Karl Gallagher in full flight, high fielding from kickouts as Rory Beggan used Karl as a target to bypass over the kickout high press. Well done Karl on an outstanding Div. 1 league season.
