Monaghan County Handball Notes (14/02)

St Mellan’s Handball Club

Gael Linn. Our Gael Linn team of Eimear Mc Anenly and Odhran Mc Meel had made it to the All-Ireland end of the competition which was due to take place in Ballydesmond Co. Cork weekend past, but due to an injury to Eimear they were forced to withdraw, would have been a great experience but not to be, Eimear is out for a few weeks now so get well soon and hope to see you back for the end of the handball season.

Juvenile Coaching & Leagues. The new juvenile doubles leagues for the juveniles are up and running, this will replace the coaching sessions for all except the younger ones on a Monday evening, can all players please make a special effort to be there for their games, as it is doubles if there is a player missing it disrupts both teams.

Ulster Juvenile Championships. The fixtures are out for the Ulster Juvenile Championships, on Saturday the 25th we have 4 sets of games involving club players representing the county playing in St.Mellans and if they are successful we will have them and other club & county players in action the on Sunday on 26th in Belfast in Gort Na Mona & St.Pauls, with all finals the following weekend in Beragh, good luck to all our county players.

Minor Championship Final. The minor final took place Tuesday past the 14th in Bawn where St.Mellans player Oisin Hagan played Oran Finnegan from Carrickmacross, full report next week, good luck Oisin.

Adult Club Singles. The adult club singles in all competitions, the “Robert O Reilly Engineering” Cup (D1), “Gola Woodworks” Cup (D2) & “Tunnel Kerr” Cup (D3) are now entering the final stages, Eoin has a full list of fixtures out for this week’s action, please take note of dates & times, with the finals being fixed for this Saturday evening in St.Mellans.

Adult Club Doubles. Eoin is now in the process of drawing up the adult club doubles so anyone interested in taking part get your name into Eoin as quickly as possible, apart from the club ladies open this is last adult competition of the year so get in quick!!!!!!!.

Ladies County Open. The inaugural “County Ladies Open” is on tomorrow night (Friday) in St.Mellans, good luck to all our club ladies taking part, final to be played along with Men’s Senior & Intermediate Finals at the beginning of March.

Ulster Adult Championships. Good luck to Joe Kelly as he takes on Diego Di Folco from Cavan & Patrick Mc Kenna as he plays Steven O Neill from Antrim in the Junior B Singlesfixed for this Sunday the February 19th in St.Mellans

Comhghairdeachas.. Saturday evening past Conor Mc Donnell was ratified in as Uachtaran Liathroid Laimhe at the 2023 congress in the 4 Seasons Hotel Monaghan, well done Conor and all the best from everyone in St.Mellans, a great achievement as being only the 4th Ulster personto hold the presidency in the associations 99 year history.
