The Late Pat Deery RIP: Sad news filtered around our community when news came round on the passing of Pat Deery Tullynahinera on the 26th of December. Pat’s status around our community was that of legendary and he was known near and far throughout our community and surrounding areas.

Pat’s association within our football club came in the successful Junior Championship winning team of 1967 where Pat played a starring role on this success. Throughout that year Pat played at midfield with wins against Rockcorry to set up a final meeting with Currin in Ballybay. On the day Aughnamullen had started poorly however tactical move involving Pat to a more defensive role proved pivotal and according to the Northern Standard Reporter at that time this move was the turning point in the game and it led the Sarsfields to victory to record their first championship final victory in 10 years.

Pat always supported the club in anyway he could in the intervening years either by providing music with his family at many football functions and supporting the club in any fundraising initiatives that the club undertook and supporting his children/grandchildren when they played and represented the club for many years

In 2014 the club honoured Pat with the Hall of Fame Award

Sincere sympathy is extended to his wife Eileen, Sons Michael, Patrick, Paul, Seamus & Stephen, Daughters Eilish, Angela & Margaret, Sisters Eileen, Collette, Geraldine & Patricia and their respective families may god have mercy on his soul
