Hurling Go Games & U11 Hurling Development League come to a close

Over the past couple of weeks, our Monaghan GAA U7 & U9 Hurling Go Games and U11 Hurling Development League concluded for 2022. Go Games is a great opportunity to develop Hurling in terms of participation, skill development & developing a love for the game for our younger players in a fun environment. Credit must go to all clubs, coaches, coordinators and parents for organizing and implementing this very important introductory games program.  Long may it continue!!

U7s & U9s

This year’s Hurling Go Games program saw 9 blitzes take place for our U7s & U9s age groups. The teams that participated in this year’s Go Games program were Inniskeen, Clontibret, Monaghan Harps, Latton, Carrickmacross, Castleblayney, Truagh and East Cavan Gaels. This year’s program saw 7 clubs host 1 blitz each and facilitate the other 7 clubs involved and two blitzes were also hosted at the Entekra Monaghan GAA Centre of Excellence in Cloghan. This takes a lot of time, effort, and organization from club volunteers to facilitate the running of these events for teams and a huge well done must go to all clubs who worked together throughout the summer to provide games for their juvenile players.

U11 Hurling Development League

This summer, Monaghan Coaching & Games also organized an U11 Hurling Development League for all Hurling clubs in Monaghan and two Hurling clubs from Cavan. The clubs who took part in the development league were Castleblayney, Latton, Inniskeen, Truagh, Clontibret, Monaghan Harps, Carrickmacross, Cootehill & East Cavan Gaels. The league commenced on May 15th and continued on right through until September 4th which ensured everyone got a minimum of 9 rounds.

All games were very well contested with some brilliant skills on show from the young children. The focus of this development league was on participation, skill development and fun. The first 8 rounds of games had a skill focus, these included Striking from the hand, Jab lift, Hand pass, Overhead catch, Frontal block, Hook and Roll lift. For the final round of games, an award for “Most Skillful Player” was presented at each game for a player from each club taking part.

Massive thanks to all the coaches for all their co-operation throughout the season in making sure fixtures went ahead on dates fixed and their communication with club coaches & Monaghan Coaching & Games staff.
