Monaghan Harps Lotto: Numbers 1, 9, 14 and 26. Jackpot of €5,200 not won. Thanks to everyone for their support for our Lotto, which has now played a critical role in our club’s funding for over 25 years.

 

Charity match: Our annual charity match took place at Gavan Duffy Park on December 28. We ask that all sponsorship cards be returned to Mary White/Owen Connell or left into the clubhouse by this Sunday night. All support appreciated.

 

Committee: Thanks to Pádraig Callan and Aidan Treanor for taking up the committee positions of Coaching Officer and Youth Officer which were left vacant at our AGM in November. County Awards: Congratulations to Eoghan McGinnity on once again being named Young Handballer of the Year at the Monaghan GAA awards night last Friday. Well done also to our Cultural Officer Joe Ó Gallchóir and everyone involved with Scór in our club, which saw the Harps recognised for Best Contribution to Scór and Culture, and to several of our young Scór competitors who played on the night. Hugh McKenna was also recognised on the night after refereeing the 2019 JFL Final. Well done to all.

 

Juvenile Presentation: Our annual juvenile presentation night took place last Friday in the clubhouse. Thanks to everyone involved. Full report in next week’s notes.

 

Registration: Membership fees for 2020 can now be paid to club registrar Kevin Treanor or in the clubhouse. Fees are as follows: U-11s €20; juveniles/seniors €30; family membership €60. Please note that all adult and juvenile players must be registered before starting training for 2020.

 

Ireland Lights Up: Monaghan Harps are proud to be taking part in the Operation Transformation ‘Ireland Lights Up’ project for 2020. Well over 100 people have taken part in the first two weeks and this will continue each Thursday until February 27. This easy 3.5km route is suitable for all fitness levels and all ages. High-vis jackets will be provided, but we advise participants to bring a torch. Spread the word!

 

Club Draw: The GAA’s National Club Draw is back for 2020, offering great prizes. All support appreciated.

 

Upcoming events: The ‘Ireland Lights Up’ walks continue each Thursday until February 27. Also as part of our health and well-being programme, Monaghan Harps are pleased to host a six-week stress-control course, starting next Wednesday, January 29 at 7pm. Please come along and bring a friend.

 

Coaching: Monaghan GAA have several upcoming coaching development courses, as well as a Child Safeguarding/Child Protection course.

 

County: Good luck to Kevin Loughran and the Monaghan senior footballers in their upcoming Allianz NFL campaign and to Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh and the county U-20s in this Saturday’s Philly McGuinness Cup Final. Good luck also to Magheracloone in the All-Ireland Club IFC Final.

 

Schools: Best wishes to all our club players representing their teams in schools’ and colleges’ competitions.

Clubhouse: The Monaghan Harps clubhouse is available to book for functions. Please contact Paudge Connolly on 085 8589135 or Rose Donnelly on 086 0825782 for more information. Anyone looking to book the clubhouse for meetings, functions, etc. is asked to please give a week’s notice for convenience.

 

Hurling:

 

Table Quiz: We will be hosting a table quiz in the clubhouse on Friday, January 31. Please keep an eye on our social media platforms for further updates.

 

Juvenile Training: Training will start up before the end of February. All new members welcome! Please get in touch with any club member or through social media if you or your child are interested in playing hurling for 2020.

 

Ladies:

 

We were successful in being selected for the National ‘Gaelic for Teens’ programme for 2020. An exciting year ahead for coaches and teenage players alike.

 

U-10 and U-12: Training starts indoors on Wednesdays at 6.45pm at the Collegiate School. Newcomers welcome; please contact Eithne (086 8983430) or Ronan (086 0701764).

 

U-14: Training continues on Mondays at 7.15pm in Coláiste Oiriall.

 

U-16s and Minors: Training continues on Mondays at 6.30pm in Beech Hill. Well done to Scarlett Herron for being selected for the county U-16 2020 squad. Congratulations to Katie Trainor and Scarlett on being part of the victorious Coláiste Oiriall Ulster U-20 championship team.
