Aughnamullen basking in glorious Autumnal sunshine was the venue for the Gerry’s Prepared Veg U13 Championship Final double header on Saturday. In the first decider Inniskeen were crowned Division 3 champions having defeated Tyholland. Drumhowan and Rockcorry had their sights set on the Division 4 title which threw-in at 1pm.
Drumhowan’s dream U13 season began back in June when they were crowned Féile champions which was followed by the U13 League title in July and to put the icing on the cake they topped the season off by winning the aforementioned Division 4 U13 Championship on Saturday.
Drumhowan got off to a more energetic start than Rockcorry and despite brilliant team work by Rockcorry it wasn’t reflected on the scoreboard as it took them 16 minutes to register their first score by which time Drumhowan were 2-5 ahead. Having got their scoring boots on Rockcorry did add another score before half time but Drumhowan’s dominance was obvious on a scoreline of Drumhowan 2-7 Rockcorry 0-2.
Both sides refreshed after the interval returned to the field of play to continue their pursuit of the Division 4 title. They exchanged scores in the opening minutes but with Drumhowan’s key players on fire in all positions on the field Rockcorry had to dig deep to try and penetrate the defence which was a difficult task. Drumhowan proved much too strong and eased to victory on a scoreline of 5-13 to 0-04 to be crowned Gerry’s Prepared Veg Division 4 U13 champions for 2019.
