“The Town” Turns On The Style Against Killanny

Manor Farm U15 Division 2 Cup Final

Clones 3-16 Killanny 3-07

“The Town” thundered to victory over a keen Killanny side in The Manor Farm Division 2 Cup Final on Thursday evening. Hosted by a busy Sean McDermotts club it was delightful to see their grounds buzzing with a juvenile blitz on one pitch and the U15 final on the main pitch on  a pleasant July evening.

In what was a lively, energetic, pulsating performance by both teams in the first half  Clones got off to the most impressive start with their inspirational captain Ryan Nolan, the games top scorer, on fire throughout bagging 2-05 with one of his efforts sending a penalty to the back of the net  in the 7th  minute. Diarmuid McElvaney also got on the scoreboard in the latter stages of the first half scoring Clones’ 3rd goal of the half.

Killanny keenly contested the game in the first half although they esperienced barren spells throughout. Mid way through the half Killanny had their most dynamic period with Conor Burns on target scoring 2 goals in as many minutes to level matters and indeed push his side ahead  for what would be the only time they would take the lead in the match . At the other end Clones continued to add to their tally going in 3-5 to 2-4 up at the interval.

With just 4 points between the sides at the restart Killanny were still very much in the game but with the likes of Ryan Nolan adding to his personal tally and Brendan Crawley,Eoghan McFarland,Diarmuid McElvaney all on target “The Town’s” dominance continued as they popped over more scores. Killanny’s scores were few and far between with them having to be very creative with any opportunities they got as they experienced a scoreless period of 11 minutes midway through the 2nd  half , a period which ended with a penalty scored by Tomas Gartlan. As the clock ticked down Clones had done more than enough to be crowned Division 2 champions for 2019 on a final score of 4-16 to 3-07. All credit to Killanny on their strong performance and work rate throughout.
