Currin win first JFC title since 1972

October 1st, 2017

Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship Final

Currin 1-10 Seán McDermotts 0-11                     1/10/17

Currin won their first JFC title since 1972 when they edged out Seán McDermotts in Scotstown on Sunday. Stephen Smyth hit the all-important only goal of the game in the first minute of the second half as Currin burst out of the traps with an unanswered 1-3 that was the foundation for their win. The Seáns had started with three points in the first seven minutes against the breeze, but Currin rallied to go in level at half-time (0-7 apiece) and despite failing to add to their tally from the 38th minute on, their defence held firm as last year’s runners-up saw a few late chances go abegging.
