Finals: We host the Mallon’s Foods U-16 Division Two Shield Final between Éire Óg and Tyholland this Saturday at 11.30am, followed by the Division Three Shield Final between Doohamlet and Seán McDermotts at 2.30pm. All help would be appreciated.

Fun Day: Our annual fun day and balloon race will take place at Gavan Duffy Park on Saturday, October 7. Balloon race cards are available now from Jimmy Croarkin and Úna Forde. Every child who fills a card will receive new Harps gear, with an iPad up for grabs for the person who sells the most balloons.

Seniors: We fell to a disappointing defeat at home to Clontibret in the County Monaghan Credit Unions Senior Football League last Sunday. Liam Hahessy, Neil McAdam and Éimhín Morahan were on target in the first half, but Clontibret changed ends with a 1-10 to 0-5 lead. Liam, Neil, Nicholas Treanor and Niall Hahessy got our second-half scores, but we failed to take our chances to get back into the game and we ended up on the wrong side of a 2-15 to 0-9 scoreline.

Team and scorers: Ashley White; Niall Hahessy (0-1), Conor Galligan, Mustafa Gamal; Gareth Treanor, Nicholas Scott, Kevin Loughran; Stephen Driver (Capt.), Shane McMahon; Éimhín Morahan (0-1), Gary White, Michael Galligan; Liam Hahessy (0-4, 3f), Shane Smyth, Neil McAdam (0-2, 1f).

Subs: Nicholas Treanor (0-1) for Smyth (black card, 26 mins), Thomas Croarkin for Morahan (44), Conor Duffy for Driver (black card, 51).

We have another home game against Castleblayney this Saturday at 5.30pm.

U-13: Well done to our U-13s, who won the Shield at the Clann na nGael tournament in Roscommon last Sunday. A win over the host club and a narrow defeat against Ratoath from Meath in the group saw our lads enter the Shield, where they qualified for the final against Dublin club Na Fianna. This game saw the Harps produce their best football of the day, with Eoin O’Hanlon, Seán Callan and Luke McManus among the scorers as they claimed an excellent win that made the early start worthwhile. Well done to all our players, who all contributed on the day, and their mentors. Panel: Ethan Ballantine, Cian Bradley, Seán Callan, Mark Clerkin, Dáire Conlon, Morgan Coyle, Jordan Crampton, Senan Cudden, Gary Devlin, James Gunn, Scarlett Herron, Josh Kelly, Shay Kelly, Jack Lynch, Max Mallen, Jake McConnon, John McCrystal, Luke McManus, Michael McMorrow, Shane Moran, Fionán Ó Gallchóir, Gregory O’Connell, Eoin O’Hanlon, Karol Parszywka, Oisín Reilly, Shea Swift, Oisín Treanor.

U-12: Both of our U-12 teams got a walkover from Castleblayney last Saturday. Our Division One team host Scotstown in the Coyle Cup Semi-Final this evening (Friday) at 6.30. All support welcome. Our Division Five semi-final is currently scheduled for Saturday week (September 23).

Blitz: We hosted our last double blitz of the year for U-8s and U-10s last Saturday. Despite the wintry weather, we had a big crowd at Gavan Duffy Park on the morning. Thanks to everyone who helped out in any way.

Gavan Duffy Park: The refurbished Monaghan Harps clubhouse is available to book for functions. Contact Jimmy Croarkin on 087 1249635 or Pádraig Callan on 087 2543511 for more information. Anyone looking to book the clubhouse for meetings, functions, etc. is asked to please give a week’s notice for convenience.

Hurling notes:

Minor: Carrickmacross built on a good start last Saturday to win on a 2-6 to 1-14 scoreline in the Silver Hill Foods Minor Hurling Championship Semi-Final in Rooskey. Hard luck to our lads who battled hard to get back into the game but ultimately, they fell short on progressing to the final and a chance of adding to their league victory from earlier in the year.

Congratulations: Congratulations to senior player Jack Lee and his newlywed wife Sinead on tying the knot last weekend.
