Street collection: Our annual street collection takes place this weekend: Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17 from 9.30am on both days. All support for this important fundraiser is greatly appreciated and we ask anyone who can spare an hour or two over the weekend to please contact Una Forde on 087 6107329.

Féile: The countdown is on until we host boys’ and girls’ U-14 teams for the John West Féile Peil na nÓg 2017 on the weekend of June 23-25. Meath boys’ champions Naomh Colmcille and Calry/St. Joseph’s girls from Sligo will be our guests. We host games at Gavan Duffy Park on the Friday and Saturday, as well as our teams contesting games in Castleblayney and Tyholland. See more details next week.

Seniors: We lost out at home to Truagh in the County Monaghan Credit Unions Senior Football League last Saturday. The teams swapped points several times in the first half, with Michael Galligan and Fearghal McMahon leading our scoring, which we ended with a narrow 0-6 to 0-5 lead. Michael, Fearghal, Shane Smyth, Shane McMahon, Conor Galligan and Ashley White were all on target for our lads, who moved into a five-point lead midway through the second half, only for Truagh to finish strongly; scoring two goals to grab a 2-8 to 0-12 win. We are due to host Latton in another star game next Wednesday – check online to confirm fixture.

Team and scorers: Ashley White (0-1, ’45); Niall Hahessy, Conor Galligan (0-1), Mustafa Gamal; Gareth Treanor, Nicholas Scott, Thomas Croarkin; Aodhán Óg McAnespie, Stephen Driver (Capt.); Shane McMahon (0-1), Nicholas Treanor, Niall Greenan; Michael Galligan (0-4, 3f), Shane Smyth (0-2), Fearghal McMahon (0-3, 2f).

U-14: We fell short in a well-contested U-14 Football Championship Division One quarter-final at home to Carrickmacross last Thursday. Goals by Shay Cooney and Jamie Coyle and points from Shay, Jake McConnon and Jake Power kept us in touch in the first half, but Carrick changed ends leading by 2-7 to 2-3. We fell further behind after the restart, but the likes of Tiarnán O’Rourke, James Curley and Jake Power led a determined comeback that took us within striking distance of catching up. Carrick responded with a brace of quick goals, however, to run out winners by 5-13 to 2-10.

Team and scorers: Karol Parszywka; Ryan McSkeane, James Curley; Mark McManus, Kevin Moran, Michael McMorrow; Liam Conway (Capt.), Tiarnán O’Rourke (0-3, 1f); Jake Power (0-3), Shay Cooney (1-2, 0-1f), Luke McManus; Jake McConnon (0-1), Jamie Coyle (1-1, 0-1f).

Subs used: Gary Devlin, Shea Swift, Josh Kelly, Jordan Crampton.

Well done to Liam Conway, James Curley and Kevin Moran for making their debuts for the county U-14 development squad last Saturday. Both of our U-14 teams have away games this Saturday in Donaghmoyne: Division One at 12 noon, Division Five at 1.15. After that, full attention will turn to Féile from June 23-25.

U-12s: Both of our Under-12 teams fell to narrow defeats away to Carrickmacross last Saturday. The double-header at home to Scotstown is due to be brought forward from Tuesday to Monday: Division One at 6.45, Division Five at 8pm – check online to confirm fixtures.

County: Well done to Neil McAdam and the Monaghan senior footballers on their hard-earned Ulster championship quarter-final in Cavan last Sunday.

Dates to remember: We will once again host a Kellogg’s Monaghan GAA Cúl Camp from July 10-14. Registration is open online now. Our own Harps Summer Camp will take place in August (14-18). Keep an eye on club notes for more details on these events.

Hurling notes:

U-12: We travelled to Keady last Monday, however with no referee showing up it proved a wasted journey. Our next fixture is at home to Cootehill on Monday, July 10. Well done to the Scoil Mhuire hurlers and Jim Dalton who overcame Carrickmacross by one point last week in the county national schools’ semi-final.

Senior: We will open the senior championship with a home fixture against Castleblayney on Thursday, June 29 at 8pm.

Ladies notes:

Training: Training continues Thursdays for U-12s and U-14s from 6-7pm and Mondays and Thursdays for U-16s, minors and seniors; 6.50-8pm. Old and new faces welcome.
