Carrickmacross Club Notes

May 4th, 2017

Under Twelves! These two teams finished off a great week for the Emmets club when both sides won their respective games in the under-twelve Spring League Finals which took place in Cloghan last weekend. To begin with the Emmets first team; were paired against local rivals Magheracloone and after an interesting game it ended double scores in favour of the Emmets 0-18 to 0-09.  It was fine display from the young lads; they showed a lot of talent and ability from within this particular group of players which arguers well for the immediate future forward. The Emmets second string then took the field against Monaghan Harps and they duly obliged with a winning margin of 0-12 to 0-07 to complete a splendid double for the club.  Congratulations to the mentors and the players on a great achievement.

Minor Team! At half time the score was Donnaghduff 1-06 Emmets 0-01: There was a strong breeze in Corduff and it favoured the Carrick boys in the second half but there was a lot of hard graft to be done if Emmets were to emerge with the crucial win. The half time interlude was used to good effect and the team emerged to tackle the task in front of them. In the end three goals and three points were added to the Emmets tally which was enough to see them over the line. Team; Robbie McCluskey; Cormac O’Hanlon; Patrick Bermingham; Oisin Cassidy; Cathal O’Rourke; Tiernan McCourt; Cathal McEneaney; Andrew Moore; Karl McMenamin; Jack McGeown (0-02) Thaig Callaghan; (1-01) Oisin Wilcoc (1-00)  Rowan McMahon (1-00) Jack Gillick; Killian Gartland (0-01) Subs; Dylan Ward; Michael Maguire; Eton O’Gorman and Breffni Henry.

Intermediate League! Toome were back in Carrickmacross after an absence of many years; years ago they would have played numerous championship matches in Emmet Park including an Intermediate final just ask “Mickey Kirke” now a staunch Emmets man.  Not sure if he was there but if he was he would have been pleased with the performance of his former team who rattled up a decent score of 2-10. The Emmets had five points to spare in the end and should be satisfied in that respect. Half Time; Toome 1-05 Emmets 0-07. Final Score: Emmets 2-15 St Victors 2-10. Emmets lined out as follows; Andrew O’Rourke, Aaron Murray, Conor Duffy, Caolán Martin, Jamie Guinan; Declan Finnegan; Killian Cromwell; Neil Loughman; James McGeown; Conor McEneaney; Kevin O’Hanlon; Aaron Lynch; Sean Downey; James Conlon; Aaron Jones. Subs: Mark Downey; Ciaran Ward; Ryan O’Connor and Gary McEneaney.
Under-Sixteen! Scotstown travelled the long distance to Emmet Park to play the Carrick under-sixteens in round five of the league tonight and opened the scoring with a point from play. A goal from Donnach Swinburne and then Conor Capaldi hit Emmet’s second goal. The visitors finished the first half scoring with a point from play 2-05 to 0-06: The second half belonged to the Emmets; Sean McKenna; Nathan McCaul; Helvijs Daygulis preserved their territory Niall Keenan; Jack McGeown; Eton O’Gorman were adventurous and gave a good supply of ball. At centre Conor Capaldi and Cian Maher got the better of their opponents. Larry McCluskey battled hard and raided up the wings; Andrew Moore showed his usual courage whereas Donnach Swinburne was at his best. Ryan Marron took his goal well; Daire Povall took his points well and Dara Alfred did everything well! Darragh Maher; one great save in the second half was vital! Mark Tierney and Killian McNally came on and did their bit!

Under-Sixteen! An early brace of points and a well taken goal by Ryan Marron were the only scores the Emmets team-two registered in the first half of this division three league, but the second half produced three goals and six points for the Emmets and that was enough to secure a victory over Sean McDermotts;. A nice win for the boys and a good second half display earned them the honours on the night. The defence played well and cleared their lines at vital stages; midfield was strong going forward and the forwards eventually found their range with some nice scores. Final Score read Emmets 4-08 Seans 2-08. Team; Jack McMenamin; Arturs Amolins; Helvijs Daygulis; Darragh Callaghan; Mark Tierney;  Conor Devine; Jack Cassidy; Aaron Cogan; Pauric Malcolm; Ryan Marron; Turlough O’Hanlon; Cillian McNally; Conor Browne: Subs; Oisin Mills; Niall O’Sullivan; Conor Cassidy; PJ Egan; Dylan Martin; Cian Finnegan; Dylan Bruton.
