On the field

Football a strange old game they say.. Certainly the case for our U12’s U16’s and reserves over the past week as honest commitment and endeavour just didn’t yield the results they deserved. It was narrow defeats for the 3 sides to Ballybay and Carrickmacross respectively but while the results were not in our favour the performances of the sides is to be commended and one knows the hard work of the moment will produce the goods. Heads up to the teams and managements and keep it going. Our thanks also to the Killeevan club who invited our U8’s and U10’s over to their club grounds on Saturday morning past for a number of challenge games with themselves and Aghabog. There was also a surprise visit from the Sam Maguire cup.

Upcoming Fixtures

It is a busy time now for all teams with our Minors who are amalgamated with Eire Og in action on Tuesday night next when they are away to Clontibret. The team is know as St Marys Na Mullai and will play their home games at Smithborough. The Under 16’s will have their 2nd outing tonight (Thursday) when they travel to Sean Mc Dermotts for a local derby. Throw in at 6:45pm. The U14’s face the same opposition on Saturday when they welcome the Seans to Pairc Mhuire at 2pm and our Senior side have their first outing in the Junior league on Saturday evening when they travel to Scotshouse on Saturday evening to take on Currin at 6:30pm.

National league

Hard luck to the Monaghan Senior team who went down to Dublin in the final round game of the Allianz National Football league on Sunday in a cracking encounter in Clones. The panel and management while no doubt crest fallen by the result can certainly carry their heads high after a brilliant league campaign and we look forward now to the championship and a preliminary round clash with Fermanagh on May 20th. It was also good to see our club members Fergal McGeough and Niall McKeown continue as part of the county panel . Well done to the Monaghan ladies who registered a hard earned win over Armagh in the opening game at Clones and as they look to maintain their position in Division 1 we wish them the best of luck against the same opposition this Sunday in the playoff.

Half time Draw

It seems there was an issue at St Tiernachs park Clones on Sunday past where some supporters could not hear the PA system across the field from the main stand, so the half time draw number was not heard. The winning number was 029912. If you have that ticket drop your details along with a photo of the ticket to pro.monaghan@gaa.ie . Further details are available on the Monaghan GAA website.

St Marys Hall – Rockcorry

St Marys Hall will see some refurbishment over the coming weeks and as part of that, volunteers are sought this Thursday evening (6th) to help clean it out. Meet at the hall at 7pm. Thanks in advance for you help in this.
