Youth Affairs

Under 12’s – Zone H

Currin Under 12’s play at home on Saturday 15th April with a throw in time of 2pm so Saturday morning training is off for that group. Rockcorry provide the opposition this time. All players please be at the pitch for 1:30pm.

Under 14’s – Division 3

Patrick Emmett’s travelled to Toome for a game v Clan na Gael on Saturday 8th April. This was an epic encounter and our lads did themselves proud coming away with a great one point win on a scoreline of 5 12 to 3 19. The home team scored a goal with a minute left to take a two point lead but three quick injury time points saw Patrick Emmett’s grab a terrific win. Our next game is on Saturday 22nd April in Scotshouse at 2pm against Doohamlet.

Under 16’s – Division 3

Patrcik Emmett’s went down to a defeat against St Tiarnach Sarsfields on Thursday last on a scoreline of 1 05 to 5 13. Thursday 13th April sees us travel to take on Clontibret with a throw in time of 7pm.

The Under 8 and nursery training will be starting in the coming weeks. Please watch here for notification of start date and spread the word. All new members very welcome.

There is training for young ‘Go Games’ refs on Friday at 11am to 1pm at Cloghan. Please let Fintan know if you intend to take on this role. If you have already trained there is no need to attend again.

Seniors

Our seniors began their 2017 campaign against Rockcorry in Scotshouse on Saturday evening last. We started well and were in front thanks to three points from Stephen Smith. Twenty minutes had passed when the visitors registered their first score, and only for some wayward shooting we could have been further ahead at the break. We went in at half time ahead five points to two. We continued to get the better of the exchanges in the second half and were ahead by seven points after twenty two minutes when Rockcorry staged a comeback and two penalties saw only two points between the sides at the end. Final score, Currin 0-13, Rockcorry, 2-5. This was certainly a ‘start of the season’ game and both teams will be looking for improvement as the year progresses. Our defence was strong throughout with the visitors being held scoreless from play. Up front, a series of unenforced errors allowed the visitors back into the game, but it’s good to start the year with a win and well done to all concerned. Team and scorers, Fergal Connolly, Colm Mc Caffrey, Conor Mc Caffrey, Enda Mc Caffrey, Shane O Connor, Ciaran Mc Caffrey, Paddy Mc Dermott, Dick Clerkin, 0-2, Eoin Morrow, Jason Mc Kiernan, Ben Clerkin, Ronan King, Dara Brady, Stephen Smyth, 0-6, Johnny O Connor.. Subs, Jack Mc Carron, 0-4, for Ronan King, Niall Mc Entee for Johnny O Connor, Kieran Kearns, 0-1 for Dara Brady, Damien Connolly, Conor Beattie, Hughie Reilly, Antony Leonard.. Two more games this week, firstly Aghabog, away on Wednesday night and then Killevan at home on Saturday evening at 7.00 pm.

Note throw in for both games is 7.00 p.m.

Congratulations

Well done to Jack Mc Carron on being selected on the N.F.L. team of the year. This was a well deserved accolade, after a sparkling league campaign.

Cake Sale

Currin juveniles will hold their Annual Cake Sale on Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday after mass. This is an ideal way to spoil yourself after the rigours of

Lent and at the same time support a very worthy cause by either baking and or buying.

Recent bereavements,

The Currin club and locality, this week, lost two fine gentlemen of the G.A.A. family. Gerry Mc Cabe, Lisboduff, R.I.P. was a great supporter of all our clubs fundraising efforts and was in fact the very first winner of our Lotto many years ago. We extend our sympathy to his extended family and many friends.

We were all saddened to learn of the passing, after a prolonged illness, of former player, referee and aficionado, Gerry West, R.I.P. Treehoo, on Tuesday 11th April. At this time, Currin G.F.C. would like to extend our condolences to his wife and Family. Go ndeana Dia trochaire ar a ainm dilis.
