Corduff Club Notes

Club Lotto:

This week’s Club Lotto draw was held in The Mountain Dew, Corduff on Sunday night last. There was no winner of the Jackpot of €8,800. The numbers drawn were: 05, 10, 12 & 25. The five €20 Lucky Dip winners were: John Finlass, Roisin Fealy, Ciaran Malone, Charlie Lynch & Martin McNally.

Next week’s Jackpot will be €8,900 and the draw will be held in John Joe Cunningham’s, Carrickmacross on Sunday night at 9:00pm. Thank you for your continued support.

Intermediate Team:

The Intermediate Team get their Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League season underway this Saturday evening (8th April), when they travel to Doohamlet for a 6:30pm throw-in.

On Wednesday evening (12th), they welcome Toome to Páirc Ghaelach, Corduff for a 7:00pm throw-in. All support welcome for both games.

Reserve Team:

The Reserve Team extended their unbeaten start to the League with a 0-11 to 1-06 victory away to Truagh on Saturday last. The next game in the Reserve League is on Wednesday 10th May at home to Oram.

Minor Team:

The minor amalgamation of Donaghduff Gaels played their first home game of the season in Corduff on Tuesday evening against Truagh and earned their first win on a scoreline of 4-12 to 3-07.

Their next game is at home to Aughnamullen in Corduff on Tuesday evening (11th April), with throw-in at 7:00pm.

Inter-County Teams:

Monaghan’s Senior footballers rounded out the Allianz National Football League with a valiant display against the All-Ireland Champions, Dublin, in Clones on Sunday last, eventually succumbing to a 2-15 to 1-15 defeat. They now engage into Championship mode as the preparation begins for the Ulster GAA Football Senior Championship Preliminary Round clash with Fermanagh on Saturday 20th May in St. Tiernach’s Park, Clones.

Monaghan’s hurlers are in action this Saturday (8th) in the Ulster Senior Hurling Shield semi-final against Derry in Healy Park, Omagh. Throw-in is at 3:00pm. The Nicky Rackard Cup gets underway on 22nd April, with Monaghan facing Tyrone.

Monaghan’s Minor and Under 17 teams were both defeated by Cavan last weekend in Killinkere. Fionn O’Callaghan & Sean Burns playing a part for the Minor team. The next games in these competitions will be held on Saturday 15th April.

Ladies

Under 14’s:

The Under 14’s made the trip to Aghabog last Tuesday for their first competitive match of the season in the U14 League.Corduff put in a massive effort throughout but Aghabog proved too strong and by the final whistle they were victorious. The team was as follows: Kerry Anne Walsh, Holly Higgins, Abbie McGivney, Abbie Finegan, Erica Smyth, Georgia Smyth, Kayla Hand, Emily Hegarty, Katie Walsh, Fiona Corrigan, Rebecca McGivney, Rheanne McGarrell, Ellen Connolly & Charlotte Higgins.

This Monday 10th April Corduff hosts Monaghan Harps with a 6:45pm throw in. Please support and we wish the team and management good luck in that match.

County News:

Congratulations to Laura,Eva and the Monaghan team and management on a brilliant win over Armagh last Sunday in Clones. They are now in joint place with Armagh on the league table so they have to play them again in a relegation play-off this weekend. Match details to be confirmed. Corduff Ladies wish Laura,Eva and the team and management good luck and hopefully they will consolidate their place in Division 1 for 2018.

U14’s play Monaghan Harps Monday 10th April at 6:45pm in Corduff.On Easter Sunday 16th April, the Seniors host Magheracloone at 12pm. U16’s are away to Tyholland on Easter Monday (17th April) at 7pm.On Tuesday 25th April, the U15’s are at home to Latton at 7pm. And on Saturday 29th April, the Seniors travel to Truagh.

Juveniles

Under 6, 8, 10

Training as usual on Saturday from 10am to 11.15am.

Under 12

Corduff Under12’s are at home to Latton on April 5th in Round 2 of the Spring League. The game throws in at 7pm.

Under 14

Our Under 14’s beat Killeevan away on Saturday March 25th to make it two wins from two in the league. Round 3 sees them take on neighbours Aughnamullen on Saturday April 8th. Throw in at in Páirc Ghaelach, Corduff is 2pm.

Handball

Corduff Singles League:

Congratulations to The Eagles who overcame The Steelers in a nail-biting contest over the weekend to win the Corduff Singles League. The action began on Thursday evening with team captains Shane McNally (Steelers) and Ciaran Brennan (Eagles) squaring off, with Ciaran drawing first blood and giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead. George McKitterick (S) defeated Ben Woods (E) in the second rubber of the night to level things up at 2-2, but the Steelers ahead on aggregate aces, after the first day’s play.

On Friday night, Anthony Marron (S) played Ben McGeough (E) in the opening rubber of the night, and a close battle followed with the game drawn one apiece to take the overall score to 3-3 and the Steelers ahead 72-60.Jordan McGarrell (S) played Eamon McElroy (E) in the second rubber of the night, with Jordan winning the first game before Eamon retired hurt during the second game, to leave The Steelers with a 5-3 lead after four games, and extend their aggregate score advantage to 19. In the final rubber of the night, Michael Duffy (E) defeated David McGardle (S) to tie the match up again at 5-5 overall and narrow the aggregate score to 119-113 in favour of The Steelers.

Heading into the final day’s play on Saturday evening, Cian Callan (S) and Gerry Callan (E) served up a thriller, both games going down to the wire, both winning a game each to ensure that the match would go down to the final rubber of the tie between Colm Kiernan (E) and Micheal Hanratty (S). It was Colm who prevailed in the end winning the match 2-0 and secure the title for The Eagles, on a scoreline of 8-6.

The club would like to thank everyone who took part in what was a very competitive league over the past 3 months. We look forward to seeing you all again in the Autumn.

Ulster Doubles:

Congratulations to James Gavaghan & Michael Duffy Jnr (Bawn) on winning the Ulster Junior Doubles Final on Friday last in Kingscourt. They progress to the All-Ireland Semi-Final which will be played in Galbally, Limerick at 2:30pm on Sunday afternoon against opponents from Limerick.
