Senior Ladies

The Senior ladies were in goal scoring form again last Sunday. The old cliches still apply. As with the men’s Senior B game it was a game of 2 halves. The ladies kicked off their league campaign with an win overcoming Carrick at home with a score-line of 10-10 to 4-11.  The score-line most certainly doesn’t reflect how competitive Carrick were, particularly in the second half.

Scotstown started the game strong and exhibited some brilliant football in the first half. They managed to put 5:06 on the board to Carrick’s 2 points on 20 minutes. A brilliant effort from the backs kept Carrick at bay, a particular mention to Lisa Treanor whose past experience showed as she pulled on the blue and white jersey after several years away. Lovely teamwork amongst the midfield and forward line, allowed for brilliant scores from Ciara Kilpatrick, Celine Nally and Casey Treanor.

Carrick came back strong in the second half, which provoked a competitive second half from the girls. A feast of goals was the result of some powerful attacking football by both sides. The first 20 minutes of the second half saw a rise in temperatures as Scotstown tried to maintain their lead and as Carrick attempted their comeback. A game with 35 scores was a treat for those that took the time to watch.

The mid-field carried by Abbie McCarey and Emma McKenna, supported the girls greatly and aided the forwards with some powerful scores. Sarah O’ Connell dusted off the cobwebs after a few years absent with an impressive 4-02 from play.

Team : Alanna Mc Carey , Laura Nally , Shannon Tracey, Ashling Murphy, Laura Holohan, Lisa Treanor, Megan Boylan(0-02), Emma Mc Kenna. Abbie Mc Carey (1:01), Casey Treanor (0-01), Sarah O’Connell (4-02), Claire Daly (2-01), Ciara Kilpatrick (3-02), Celine Nally (0-03), Lisa Sherlock

Well done to the ladies with a brilliant start to their league! The girls are back out this Sunday away to Tyholland at 11am…. Please show your support.

Men’s Senior B’s

Men’s Senior B’s began their campaign on Sunday last  with a home game against Monaghan Harps. As mentioned in the ladies report it was a game of 2 halves thanks to the strong wind . Scotstown with 3 point from Dermot McCrudden, 2 from Daniel McNally and Michael McCarville (one a 45 Rory would have been proud of) and point a piece from Brian MCginnity and Oran Heaply. This all before the harps registered their first point on 22 minutes. The score at half time was 0-11 to 0-3. Scotstown found scores harder to come by in the second half and only managed to raise the white flag 4 times. The harps with the help of the breeze nipped away at the score, scoring 23 point before Brian registered his second of the day. The teams exchanged points, with Ryan Caulfield scoring Scotstown’s. 3 more unanswered points left the score line 13 to 10. A point from a free from Dermot and on from play from james Hamill finished Scotstown scoring with the final score 0-15 to 0-12

Communication Committee

I was surprised that my inbox wasn’t full of people looking to get involved with the communications committee. Maybe be you just haven’t had a chance to reply so here’s another shout out:- “Calling all budding Photographers, Journalists and Webmasters. The communications committee are looking for help to gather and manage material for the social media sites the cub is currently using. For parents it might be a way to give a small amount of time to help the club and for younger members it will always look good on a CV.” Contact pro.scotstown.monaghan@gaa.ie is you think you can help.
