Action back on the fields

The skies have been blue, the grass has been mowed and the lines refreshed, and it was lovely to see the tricolour fluttering in the spring breeze at Pairc Mhuire on Sunday past for the first competitive outing for the Senior reserves as they took on Aghabog in a local derby. The bragging rights went to the neighbours in a keenly contested encounter, with Rockcorry just leaving themselves a little to much to do as they went in 2-05 to 0-02 points down at the break but upped the ante in the 2nd half to see it finish Rock 1-06 Aghabog 3-07.

Our U14’s also had their first outing on Saturday when they made the journey to Corduff, again it was another keenly contested encounter with the home side running out 5-11 to 2-11 winners.

It was also a busy weekend for the U8’s as they made their debut at the indoor league in Carrickmacross. It was wonderful to see the stars of the future tog out in the green and white of the club and take to the court and indeed put in what was described by the coaches as a “mighty performance”

The U12’s get their first run out this Saturday when they travel to Smithboro to take on Eire Og at 2pm. Best of luck to the team and management.

National league

The football on the National league front returns this Sunday with Monaghan taking on Roscommon at 2pm in Inniskeen. The farney side will be keen to get back to winning ways after their defeat to Tyrone the last day. After a 2 week break the ladies are also back in action as they take on the All Ireland champions Cork on Saturday the 18th. Best of luck to all teams.

Feile Na nOg 2017

Plans are now well in place for the hosting of Feile Na nOg 2017 by the 3 counties, Monaghan, Cavan and Fermanagh. This is a massive GAA event to have come to the region and the Rockcorry GAA club are delighted to be involved. Our juvenile officer along with the Childrens officer have been busy organising the Garda vetting for families who will be hosting players for the event and any family who would like to host players can contact any member of the committee. Feile Na nOg will be held from June 16th to 18th with up on 8000 U14 players expected into the region along with 1000 coaches and mentors.

Stewards Training Course

A Stewards training course will be held at the Monaghan GAA training grounds in Cloghan on Friday the 31st of March and Saturday April 1st. The purpose of this course is to give proper training to stewards so that a safe and secure environment can be provided at all GAA venues both at an intercounty and club level. The Training will be provided and accredited by Portobello College Dublin. Anyone interested in become a steward can contact any member of the club committee.

Night Navigation trial.

Something a little different from the GAA, the Monaghan motor club will be hosting a Night navigation trial on Saturday night in and around the Rockcorry area. Headquarters for the trial is St Marys Hall Rockcorry and the organisers have informed us to expect extra volumes of traffic around the village and surrounding area on Saturday night between 9pm and 12am. The trial which is based on a map reading exercise is the final round of the national championship so crews from all over Ireland will be in attendance and we wish all involved a safe and enjoyable event.

St Patricks Day Concert

The annual parish concert takes place tonight (Thursday) in St Michaels Hall Cootehill at 8pm. Dancing, singing, Novelty acts and a few surprises will make up the running order.

Membership

Club membership is now due and can be paid to our club registrar Pat Brannigan or indeed by contacting any member of the committee.

The annual subscription for adults is €30 with all juveniles under the age of 18 €10 per child. Any student that can provide a valid student card the membership fee is €10
