Reserves: We start our Reserve Football League Division 2B campaign away to Éire Óg this Sunday at 2pm. Good luck to the team and management of Gary McAleer, Seán Morahan and Johnny Sherry. The RFL Division 1A starts on Sunday week (March 12) v Scotstown.

 

Membership: Registration fees of €20 for 2017 can now be paid to club registrar Kevin Treanor or in the clubhouse. All players and members must be paid up by the end of March and are asked to register as soon as possible. Members can now avail of the GAA’s new ‘GRMA’ scheme, with access to exclusive discounts and special offers. See gaa.ie for more details.

 

Dates to remember: The Senior Football League is scheduled to start on Saturday, April 8 (away to Killanny), with the Minor Football League getting underway on Tuesday, March 28. Our annual Cake Sale is set for Saturday, April 29, while our Saturday-morning coaching for juveniles will also kick off in April and our juveniles will again be taking part in the St. Patrick’s Day parade on March 17. We will be participating and hosting at Féile Peil na nÓg 2017 (June 23-25), a week after our juvenile street collection. Darkness into Light 2017 will take place in the early hours of Saturday, May 6. Keep an eye on club notes for more details on these events.

 

Juveniles: Training has commenced for all of our juvenile football teams. We will be entering an Under-16 team and two teams at Under-14 and Under-12 levels. Fixtures are set to get underway next month, with the following start dates: Saturday, March 11 for U-14s; Saturday, March 18 for U-12s (Spring League); and Thursday, March 30 for U-16s.

 

Féile: Thanks to all families who have agreed to host U-14 players from a visiting club for Féile on the last weekend in June. We will hold a meeting with more information for all involved at a later date.

 

Coaching: There are several upcoming coaching courses/workshops in Cloghan. Check the Monaghan GAA website and contact Pádraig Callan if you wish to attend any. Thanks to all coaches who attended last Wednesday’s meeting in the clubhouse, where we discussed our structures and policies. Thanks to Pádraig for organising the meeting and to Monaghan GAA Games Promotion Officer Rory Beggan for attending. Keep an eye out for details about a possible upcoming Child Protection course.

County: Well done to Neil McAdam and the Monaghan senior footballers on their excellent win over Kerry in Killarney last Sunday. Good luck against Tyrone in Omagh this Saturday and to the county Under-21s in the Ulster preliminary round next Wednesday.

 

Gavan Duffy Park: The refurbished Monaghan Harps clubhouse is available to book for functions. Contact Jimmy Croarkin on 087 1249635 or Pádraig Callan on 087 4515206 for more information. Anyone looking to book the clubhouse for meetings, functions, etc. is asked to please give a week’s notice for convenience.

 

Refereeing: Basic training for new referees begins in Cloghan this Friday. Any club person interested in taking up refereeing is asked to contact any committee member.

 

Handball: Good luck to our handballers on Sunday in Kingscourt in the All-Ireland semi-finals against Munster. Our players are Tiarnán O’Rourke, Deivydas Kaklauskas, Justas Dambinskas and Konrad Kowal.

Congratulations to our juveniles on winning five gold and nine silver medals in the recent Ulster finals.

Comhghairdeas do Emily, Seán and Juste who represented Ulster in the National Cumann na mBunscol finals last week.

Congratulations also to Ramunas on reaching his first Senior County Final.

 

Ladies notes: Well done to the U-16 team who started off their league campaign with a good win over Corduff on Saturday last. Congratulations is also in order to Tommy O’Reilly, this year’s U-16 manager. The girls will host Tyholland on Saturday, April 4.

The senior ladies game which was due to take place against Aughnamullen on Sunday was postponed due to the weather.

U-12 and U-14 training will start back this Thursday in Gavan Duffy Park at 6pm. Old and new faces welcome.
