Monaghan Harps notes

January 6th, 2017

Monaghan Harps Lotto: Numbers 12, 15, 26 and 27. Jackpot of €8,400 not won. Residual prizes: €100 Dónal Sherry c/o Barry Sullivan; €40 Kay McQuaid c/o Sheila Treanor; €40 Ann McCague c/o Paddy Donnelly; €40 Colm Shalvey c/o himself. Jackpot for Sunday, January 8 is up to €8,500 and John and Helen Hahessy are on duty. Lotto draw takes place in our clubhouse every Sunday night. All welcome. Thanks to everyone for their ongoing support for our Lotto.

Charity match: We kicked off 2017 in style with our annual charity match, which once again brought a good crowd to Gavan Duffy Park on New Year’s Day. As ever, an enjoyable game, refereed by Dónal Sherry, featured members from all sections of the club and all ages. Mark McCabe once again scored a great goal to win the game. We then gathered in the clubhouse, where we had an evening of fun which included a well-supported raffle (list of sponsors to follow in next week’s notes). Owen Connell and Mary White thanked everyone involved and made a presentation to the very popular choice for Man of the Match, Mark McCabe. We were delighted to be joined by Daithí Sherry and his family. Daithí’s Wish to Walk was a worthy beneficiary of our 2016 charity match. Thanks to all sponsors, everyone who took part in or attended the match and the organising committee. All funds raised will go to a local charity/charities to be named at a later date and any sponsorship forms still to be returned can be left into the clubhouse or to the organisers.

New Year: We would like to wish all our players, members, supporters and sponsors a Happy New Year and the best of health and luck for 2017! Athbhliain faoi Mhaise Daoibh!

Music: We hosted a traditional Irish music session in the clubhouse on Friday, December 30. Thanks to the musicians and to all who attended.

Membership: Registration fees of €20 for 2017 can now be paid to club registrar Kevin Treanor or in the clubhouse.

Dates to remember: Monaghan Arch Club will return to Gavan Duffy Park for their annual visit on February 9. We will be participating and hosting at Féile Peil na nÓg 2017 on the last weekend in June. Keep an eye on club notes for more details on these events.

History social night: As part of compiling a club history, we will be hosting another reminiscence evening in the early stages of 2017: keep an eye on club notes for more details.

Congratulations: To Stevie Creighan and Laura O’Sullivan, who got married last week!
