Recently Deceased:

In recent weeks our club has lost two true gaels. Noel Woods and Anthony Woods (no relation) were men who played a major part in our club for many years and we’d like to hope our club had a very positive affect on their lives also as a result.

Noel Woods’ involvement with Donaghmoyne GFC started at a young age in the 70’s when he started playing football with the club and played for many years. Following his playing days he became a very active member of the clubs executive. He served as Club Chairman on two separate occassions and also served as Club Secretary on another occasion also. He was also part of the field committee from 1979 to 1985 which played a major role in establishing Pairc Fontenoy as we know it today. His service to the club will never be questioned by those who knew him and he will be deeply missed. We again extend our sympathies to his family and friends.

Unfortunately, a short time after, the club learned of the sad and untimely passing of Anthony Woods, another man who spent the best part of his life associated with Donaghmoyne GFC. Anthony also became involved with Donaghmoyne at a young age when he started playing with the club. As a player Anthony was part of the Donaghmoyne team who won the 1971 Hackett Cup, a success very fondly remembered by all those involved and rightly so. In 1973 he was part of the Donaghmoyne Team that reached the Owen Ward Cup Final. Following his playing days he got involved with team management within the club at various levels. He was manager of the 1st and only Donaghmoyne team that won the Brennan Cup. He kept involved with many teams following this and was then appointed Senior Team Manager in 1999. He will be fondly remebered by those who worked under

him and played with him. In later years, and indeed throughout his life he was always a prominent face on the terraces, and very rarely missed the Fontenoys in action. Indeed nothing made him happier than seeing his son Rory in action with both his club and his county, and even up until his final day he was still present on the sidelines. He will be sadly missed undoubtly by his family and our club, and we again extend our sympathies to his family and friends.

May the both, Rest in Peace.
