Clontibret Club Notes

October 7th, 2016

Clontibret

Greenfield Foods SFC

Things didn’t work out as planned in Blayney on Sunday last. Despite a good first half performance against the wind our catalogue of injuries caught up with us as the workload increased on key players in the second half. The inability of Dessie to start seriously challenged our defensive capability allowing Scotstown in for two killer blows midway through the second half. We could have handled one of them but two goals at such a match defining time sealed our fate. The players didn’t give in however and battled bravely till the end but didn’t we have the reserves to turn it around. Well done to the boys for such a wholehearted display despite the handicaps imposed by injury. Best wishes to Scotstown in the Ulster Club championship.

It’s back to league action on Sunday when we have Blayney as visitors with a 12.30pm throw in for the penultimate league match. The remaining league game is at home to Scotstown.

Up for The Final

A great night at the club on Friday last when former players who played in three county finals in the 1960’s turned up for a night of reminiscence and craic. Beaten in the 1965 and 1967 finals by Castleblayney, the team turned it around in 1968 by beating Scotstown in the final in Ballybay. In a sort of this is your life format host Kieran Lavelle kept the ball in the air with searching interviews of the players while singers Noel Farnan, Seamus Farnan and Jim Macklin were accompanied by Brendan McCourt and the Gilsenan sisters. Those present included 1968 captain Benny Mone, Sean Woods, who scored a goal in the final, Michael Murphy ,who scored the winning point, Sean Mone, Sean Hughes, John Rooney, Pat Murphy, Jim Macklin, Michael McManus, Gerry Moen, Charlie McSkane, Henry Keenan, Noel Farnan, Seamus Farnan, Brian Dawson, Mac Brennan.

Juveniles

Well done to our Under 8 squad who acquitted themselves so well in the half time match on county final day. Shane Myers (Under 12) and James Carey (Under 14) also represented their club with distinction during the Parade of Champions.

Juvenile Hurlers Seven of our players represented Monaghan in a U13 blitz in Cavan involving teams from Cavan and South Ulster.

Our U8 and U10 teams also had great fun recently at a blitz organised by Castleblayney Hurling Club.

Training Friday as usual.
