Doohamlet GFC Notes

U14 Div 4 Shield Winners: Congratulations to the under 14 team on their Division 4 Shield Final success over a strong Corduff side at Carrick last Saturday. Doohamlet set the early pace and held the lead throughout until the latter stages when Corduff drew level. One last concerted attack resulted in Kieran Markey kicking a wonderful winning point deep into injury time for a 5-10 to 509 triumph. Over the season the boys improved greatly. A measure of this improvement can be gauged by the fact the team lost only narrowly in league and championship games to eventual double winners Ballybay. The absence of key players through injury resulted in the disappointment of not gaining a top four league semi-final spot but this shield success is a much deserved consolation for the boys.

Team: Nathan Casey, David McGinn, Cian McKenna, Harry Doherty, Dylan McKenna, Jack McElroy, Jack Treanor, Dylan Duffy, Kieran Markey, Eoin Coleman and Eddie Coleman. Sub used: Liam Ingrim. Other panelists: Joe Ryan, Adam Martin, Shane McBennett, Emil Zeps, Tommy Duffy and Mattie Duffy. Joint Captains were Jack McElroy and Jack Treanor.

Best wishes for a continued speedy recovery from a foot injury to star defender Joe Ryan, who missed out on last Saturdays final.

Correction to last weeks notes about the under 12 final success to include 2nd half sub Daniel Coleman, whose name was inadvertently omitted.

Bog Snorkelling: Well done to all the hard working committee who along with Declan Connolly (Alice’s Loft and Cottages) put on a magnificent day of entertainment for all who attended the 8th Annual Bog snorkelling Championship on Saturday last. All Ireland Champion Paddy Lambe won the Mens Competition with his Sister Moira completing a unique double winning the Ladies.

Colin Walshe came home with a respectable time to win the local bragging rights.

Well done to Ciaran Finnegan, Ciaran McManus, Shane McManus, Shane Connolly, Gavin Duffy, Kevin McArdle, Trevor Duffy, Eamon McBennett, Gavin King, Oisin O’Neill and Dylan Duffy who all donned the wet suit and flippers and completed the course.

Special thanks to Conor McManus and Rory Beggan who attended on the day and our many Sponsors who with the winners of our Prize Raffle will be listed in next weeks notes.

Following on from the entertainment in the bog everyone retreated to The Old Coach Inn (Main Sponsor) for refreshments and prizegiving.
