Seniors.

Our seniors played Rockcorry in the Intermediate football championship on Sunday last in Smithboro. In ideal conditions both teams started well and traded points but in the eleventh and twelfth minutes Currin struck twice with goals from Dick Clerkin and Enda Mc Caffrey to put us in front but to their credit Rockcorry fought back and at half time the scores were level, Currin 2-3, Rockcorry, 0-9. In the second half Rockcorry got the start that we wanted with two goals and a point within five minutes and try as we might we could not bridge the gap and ended well beaten on a 2-17 to 2-8 scoreline. Team and scorers, Fergal Connolly, Colm Mc Caffrey, Ronan King, Ben Clerkin, Paddy Mc Dermott, Conor Mc Caffrey, Dara Brady, Dick Clerkin,1-2, Ciaran Mc Caffrey, Enda Mc Caffrey, Kieran Kearns, Jason Mc Kiernan, Niall Mc Entee, 0-1, Stephen Smith 0-5, Cian North. Substitutes used, Paul Rudden, Hughie Reilly, Antony Leonard. We now play Donaghmoyne the next round, back door, in two weeks. Next Sunday we travel to Aughnamullen. At this point in time it’s fixed for Saturday evening.

Youth Affairs

Under 12’s and u 10’s.

Currin Under 12s (with the under 10s) took on a strong Killanny group on Saturday last in the final of the Division 6 Shield competition. In very wet conditions our very young side put up a great display a much changed opposition from previous games. We were always playing catch up against a much bigger and stronger side. No doubt the experience of this year will stand to these youngsters next year and in future years. They have all come on very well, so much that several opposition mentors have commented on their improvement over the course of the summer. Well done to all the team, management and supporters that made the trip to Blackhill.

‘Go Games,

The final blitz will be in the coming weeks. Details by text as usual.

Training for Under 6s, 8s, 10s and 12s continues on Saturday mornings at 9.30am.

County Matters,

Hard luck to Ellen and the Monaghan ladies who came so close to toppling their nemesis Cork last Saturday.

Congratulations,

Congratulations to Senior player Paul Rudden and Becky Pucknell who got married last weekend. Paul made himself available for championship selection on Sunday and we say well done to him for that commitment.

Happy Birthday

Currin won the Junior championship in 1968 and the Ward Cup in 1972 and in the full back line on both teams was Peter Mac Kiernan. Peter celebrated his 70th birthday last weekend. We wish him more of them.
