Clones GFC Club Notes

U-14’s

Unfortunately things did not go the way of our U-14s on Saturday last as a very strong Clontibret side came out on top. These lads have made a brilliant improvement over the course of the year and if they stick at it brighter days should lie ahead. A great deal off credit must be given to Darragh Graham and his management team for all the work they have put in over the course of the year.

Seniors

Had a tough evening on Saturday last a strong Toome side came out on top on a scoreline of 3-15 to 2-06. Toome got a great start scoring the first four points and from there Clones never really recovered. Clones Team and scorers: Chris Cadden, Eugene Holland, Paul Shiels, Paul Connolly, Ryan Rooney, James McElwaine, Ben Daly, Eoin McQuaid (0-01), Adrian Alford (0-03), Cian O’Connor, Colm Connolly, Ethan Audley (0-01), Emmett McEntee (1-00), Fabian Beggan (1-00), Sarto Quigley (0-01). Subs: Micheal Treanor, Evan Mulvanney, Kevin Reilly. The lads now have a weekend off before the Championship on Sunday the 25th of September.

New York Senior Championship

What a weekend it was for Monaghan GAA in New York as they secured the Senior Championship trophy against an extremely strong and well fancied Donegal team. There was serious Clones interest in this one as Fintan Kelly along with Darren and David Freeman playing instrumental roles in securing the victory. Well done lads a great achievement considering Monaghan had not even contested a final at Senior level in New York since 1971.

Condolences

The club would like to extend its sympathies to Brian McDonald and the extended McDonald family on the passing of Deirdre McDonald last week. The McDonalds have long been an important part of the Clones GFC Family and we extend our condolences at this difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam uasal.
