RFL Division 3 Final

Unfortunately Friday night was a frustrating one after a brilliant performance reaped no rewards for our Junior B’s. In a game were the lads created so many chances we were left to rue missed opportunities and no shortage of bad luck to eventually lose out on a scoreline of 3-13 to 2-12 to a very game Killany side. Clones started brightly with Eoin McQuaid opening the scoring and James McElwaine scoring a great goal. Further scores in the half from Fabian Beggan, Emmett McEntee, Eoin Kelly and Ryan Rooney meant Clones were level at half time on a scoreline of 1-05 to 1-05. This was despite dominating for long spells but Killany to their credit took full advantage with a goal late in the half. The start of the 2nd half was a nip and tuck affair with the lead changing on three occasions. Clones had points from Ryan Rooney, Dean O’Connor and Emmett McEntee before Emmo rifled a superb effort to the back of the net. Points were exchanged again with Fabian Beggan and Eoin McQuaid scoring before Ryan Rooney put Clones four points ahead with 15 minutes to go. Unfortunately Killany were to finish stronger and 2 goals in the last ten minutes gave them the win. The win was all the harder to bear as Ryan Rooney struck the post in the last minute to deny a draw. These lads have been superb all year and hopefully they can get a win in the championship final against Carrickmacross next time out. Team and scorers: Chris Cadden, James Gibson, Eugene Holland, Kevin Reilly, Luke Rehill, Jake Rehill, Ryan Rooney(0-03), Eoin Kelly(0-01), Eoin McQuaid(0-02), Ethan Audley, James McElwaine(1-00), Fabian Beggan(0-03), Emmett McEntee(1-02), Cian O’Connor, Dean O’Connor (0-01). Subs Used: Patrick McCarville, Matthew Newell, Darragh McDermott.

Seniors

Played Sean McDermotts in a tough encounter on Sunday last and salvaged a draw on a scoreline of 2-08 to 0-14 with Adrian Alford grabbing a late goal to salvage a point from a game that looked lost with a couple of minutes to go. Clones had started brightly and at one point led 1-07 to 0-04 in the first half with points from Cian O’Connor, Colm Connolly, Adrian Alford and Eoin McQuaid as well as a goal from Adrian giving Clones this lead. The second half was much tougher as Seans came at the

lads but they dug deep and ground out a draw. A great penalty save from Chris Cadden prevented Seans from seeing out the game before the equaliser. Clones Team and Scorers: Chris Cadden, Ben Daly, Jake Rehill, Eugene Holland, Kevin Reilly, Darragh Holland, Matthew Newell, Eoin McQuaid (0-03), Ethan Audley, James McElwaine, Adrian Alford (2-02), Colm Connolly (0-02), Cian O’Connor(0-01), Fabian Beggan, Emmett McEntee. Subs Used: Paul Shiels, Eoin Kelly, Evan Mulvanney Next game is the championship against Aghabog on Friday night on Friday 8.15pm.
