Blackhill Club Notes

August 24th, 2016

Reserve League Div. 2 Champions: Blackhill’s reserve team registered their 3rd league success in a row and 4th in 5 seasons following victory over Seán Mc Dermotts last Wednesday evening. The match was played in Rockcorry, the same venue the Seáns defeated Blackhill in the Crawley Cup decider last June. This time, however, Blackhill were not to be denied. It was a wet evening but the surface played perfectly. After a good start Blackhill found themselves in arrears after a low scoring 1st quarter. It was the next period that Blackhill grabbed control of the game as the midfield pairing of Eamon Byrne and Johnny Irwin began to dominate and allowed the ball to be fed into the danger men inside. Great work from Tommy Geehan and Pauric Murphy allowed Jason Finnegan to steal in for 2 goals. Points also came from Darren Woods & Pauric Murphy. Half time score Blackhill 2-07 Seáns 0-06. This Blackhill team came out for the 2nd half more determined than ever and added on a further 4 unanswered points with Andrew Burns & Paul Finnegan  pushing on. Seáns kept battling until the end but the Blackhill defence stood firm and resolute. After the final whistle, the cup was presented to our Captain Pauric ‘Bestie’ Murphy.
