Killanny Leave it Late

PLATINUM TANKS RESERVE FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION 3 FINAL.Presentation

Killanny 3-13, Clones 2-12.

A resurgent Killanny staged a strong finish to clinch the reserve football league division 3 title at the expense of Clones in this entertaining and at times exciting contest that built to a dramatic finish in McKeown Park, Drumhowan, on Friday evening last. Entering the final 10 minutes of normal time Killanny were 4 points in arrears with Clones having recovered from a somewhat indifferent period but from there to the finish it was Killarney who grabbed the initiative thanks mainly to two goals from  super sub Conor Mathers plus late points from Gavin Traynor and substitute Conor Russell to wrap up victory and deny Clones the reserve football league division 3 title for the 2nd year in row. Earlier Clones had put in the better start and had 1-1 on the board in the opening 2 minutes and in fact before Killanny opened their account in the 9th minute Clones should have been further ahead but failed to convert a number of good chances. The sides were level at the break with Killanny taking a narrow lead 3 times in the 3rd quarter before Clones struck a strong period that saw them forge 4 ahead points thanks in part to an opportunist goal by Emmett McEntee, but Killanny staged a late flourish to take the silverware.
