Seniors: Our senior footballers have a star game at home to Carrickmacross this Sunday at 12.30pm. All support welcome.

Reserves: A busy week of reserve games started when we hosted Killanny in the RFL Division Three last Wednesday. Wasteful finishing saw us go in 1-5 to 0-3 at half-time, but we started the second half on the front foot, with a Dónal McCarthy goal helping bring us level, only for Killanny to finish stronger to secure a 2-12 to 1-7 win.

Team: John Treanor; Conor Flynn, Turlough Clerkin, Aidan Burns; Aidan Connell, David Lowry, Kyle O’Leary; Robbie Moyna (Capt.), Remy McKenna; Ruairí Forde, Conor Duffy, Jamie Shields; Colm Shalvey, Dillon Duffy, Ben Kearns-Flynn.

Subs: Paul Smyth for Clerkin, Dónal McCarthy for Forde, Ahmed Gamal for D Duffy, Carl Foentjies for C Duffy, David Carey for Burns, Daniel Kelly for Shields.

We got back to winning ways in Division 1A with a much-improved performance away to Magheracloone on Sunday. Goals by Liam Hahessy (two) and Paddy Connolly helped us lead by 3-7 to 0-6 at half-time and a strong effort, boosted by further goals from Éimhín Morahan and Dónal McCarthy, saw us pull away to win by 5-16 to 0-12.

Team: Cónall McKenna; Aidan Connell, Robbie Moyna, Paul Smyth; Mustafa Gamal, Niall Treanor, David Lowry; Aodhán Óg McAnespie, Éimhín Morahan (Capt.); Francis Lynch, Liam Hahessy, Dean Fanning; Colm Shalvey, Paddy Connolly, Dónal McCarthy.

Subs: Pat Meehan for Shalvey, Dylan McKenna for McAnespie, Ahmed Gamal for Lowry, John Treanor for Connolly.

Minors: Our Minor Football Championship Division One quarter-final will be at home to Magheracloone on Tuesday, July 19. The League Shield starts with an away game against Scotstown a week earlier (Tuesday, July 12).

U-16: Our Under-16s resumed their league campaign after the exam break with a defeat away to Aughnamullen in the league last Thursday. The Cup section of the league starts at home to the same opposition on July 21. The lads turn their attention to the championship with a home game against Inniskeen, which has been switched to next Monday (July 11) at 7.30pm.

U-14: The next games for both of our Under-14 teams are currently scheduled for Saturday week, July 16, including the Division Five championship final against Donaghmoyne, which will be played in Drumhowan.

U-12: Our two Under-12 have home games this Saturday: Division One v Killanny at 12 noon, Division Five v Truagh at 1.15.

County teams: Good luck to Neil McAdam and the Monaghan senior footballers in Saturday’s All-Ireland SFC Qualifier against Longford in Clones. Keep an eye out also for Longford’s Dónal McElligott, son of former Harps player Dan.

Well done: To our own Hugh Coyle and to all involved with the Monaghan Special Olympics team, who played in the half-time games at the recent Ulster SFC semi-finals.

Know Your Sport: There are currently seven entrants sharing the lead in our Know Your Sport predictions competition, with John Paul McEntee, Jennifer Hurson, Ciarán Toner, John Rennie, Séamus McManus, Marie Gleeson and Paul Carey all on six points after provincial championship wins for the Kerry footballers and Kilkenny hurlers last Sunday.

Hurling:

Juveniles: Training & games for all juvenile age groups continues every Sunday at 12pm in Rooskey. Anyone interested in bringing along their child or indeed helping out with coaching, please contact the Monaghan Harps Hurling Facebook page.

U-12s: We lost out on a 0-3 to 0-6 scoreline at home to Castleblayney in round four of the league on Monday evening in what was a very competitive match. Next, we are away to Clontibret at 7.30pm on Monday, July 11. Other upcoming fixtures are: July 18 v Truagh (H), July 25 v Carrickmacross (H).

County U-21s: The county U-21 squad were unlucky to fall short against Louth in their U-21 ‘C’ championship tie last Saturday. Louth were a goal ahead at half-time (2-6 to 3-6), but the teams were tied 2-14 to 4-8 at the full-time whistle and the match went into extra time. Louth had the better of extra-time and the match finished 2-18 to 5-14. Hard luck to Conor Flynn, Conor O’Neill, Tiarnán Bramley, Aidan Burns, Ruairí Forde, Ciarán Cassidy and Cathal Power who were all members of the squad.
