Street collection: Our annual street collection took place last weekend. Thanks to everyone who volunteered their time over the two days (often braving dreadful conditions), to the juvenile committee for organising the collection and to all who contributed. Thanks also to Conor Clerkin and Frank McEnaney for their help.

Seniors: Our senior footballers fell to a 2-11 to 0-11 defeat at home to Magheracloone last Sunday. A disappointing first half, where our only scores came from Liam Hahessy, Aodhán Óg McAnespie and Dean Fanning, saw Magheracloone hit 1-2 in the closing minutes to open up a 1-8 to 0-3 lead. Dean, Liam, Fearghal McMahon, Éimhín Morahan and Conor Galligan all got on the scoresheet in the second half as a spirited effort ate into our deficit, but a  second goal helped Magheracloone secure the points.

We then made the long journey to Portlaoise for a regional Féile on Saturday, where we came up against strong opposition in the shape of St. Laurence’s (Kildare), Baltinglass (Wicklow) and St. Bracken’s (Clare). The final, decisive game against St. Bracken’s saw our lads give their best performance of the day, with goals by Nathan Lavery and Dylan Ballantine and a brace of points from Eoghan McGinnity leaving the game on a knife edge towards the end, until St. Bracken’s hit a late purple patch to edge us out.

Our panel on the day was: Daragh Croarkin; James McKenny, Cathal Nally, James Curley; Kevin Moran, Tiarnán O’Rourke, Liam Conway; Dylan Ballantine, Nathan Lavery; Dean Doherty, Eoghan McGinnity, Mike Bradley; Jamie Coyle, Shay Cooney, Jake Power; Ben Myers, Ché Treanor, Dean Conlon, Adam McBride.

The next games for both of our Under-14 teams are scheduled for Saturday, July 16, including the Division Five championship final against Donaghmoyne.

U-12: Our two Under-12 teams travelled to Scotstown last Saturday. Our Division One team had a good win on a scoreline of 7-9 to 2-9, with the front six of Luke McManus, Jamie Cooney, Fionán Ó Gallchóir, Shea Swift, Eoin O’Hanlon and Senan Cudden all getting on the scoresheet.

Team and scorers: Gary Devlin; Patrick Dooley-Duffy, Dáire Conlon; Cian Bradley, Josh Kelly; Luke McManus (1-2), Jamie Cooney (1-1); Fionán Ó Gallchóir (1-3), Shea Swift (1-0); Eoin O’Hanlon (Capt., 3-1) Senan Cudden (0-1).

Our Division Five team fell short by 3-10 to 2-3, in spite of scores by Morgan Coyle, Oisín Treanor, Gary Devlin, Liam McCabe and Fionán Ó Gallchóir.

U-12s: Our U-12s put in a battling performance last Friday night away to Cootehill, but it wasn’t to be enough as the home team ran out 0-12 to 0-5 winners. There were great performances from Seán Callan in goals, Jack McDonald in defence along with Cian Bradley and Luke McManus, who worked tirelessly throughout the match. Upcoming fixtures: Monday, July 4 v Castleblayney (H), 11 v Clontibret (A), 18 v Truagh (H), 25 v Carrickmacross (H).

U-14s: We play Truagh in the League Shield Final with the details yet to be confirmed. Keep an eye on the Monaghan Harps Hurling Facebook page for updates.

Senior: We lost out on a 0-14 to 3-10 scoreline at home to Clontibret last Thursday evening in the Silver Hill Foods Senior League. A low-scoring first half was a close affair with a Clontibret goal just before the break leaving it 0-5 to 1-5. Two further fortuitous Clontibret goals in the second half helped them build a considerable lead before the Harps dominated the last 15 minutes, scoring seven unanswered points. Jack Lee made a welcome return to the squad, coming on as a sub and registering a point in between scores from his brothers Paul and Raymond. We next take on Blayney in the league on July 7.

Team and scorers: Robbie Healy; John Treanor, Dylan McAree, Conor Duffy; Tiarnan Bramley, Cathal Power (0-4), Éanna Finlay; Raymond Lee (0-1), Conor Forde; Conor Flynn (0-6), Ciaran Cassidy (0-1), Paul Lee (0-1); Ruairí Forde, Alan Ryan, Frank Burke. Subs: Jack Lee (0-1) for Burke, Michael Gissane for R Forde.

County: Congratulations to Cathal Power on making his senior county debut last Sunday in Brewster Park, coming on for the second half in the Ulster Shield Hurling Final against Donegal.
