Tidy Town Meeting

A couple of weeks ago I highlighted the current untidiness of our village. To push things along numerous people suggested to hold a Public Meeting. I am glad to report that a public meeting will take place on WEDNESDAY 22nd JUNE in St. Mary’s Hall at 9pm. As residents we must take the responsibility and instil a sense of pride and belonging because it’s OUR village and therefore it’s up to ALL of us to ensure OUR village remains clean and tidy. Any person young or old who can help make a contribution to ensure our village remains clean & tidy then please turn up at the meeting. In doing so it would be nice to get representation from all areas of the village for example the Ballybay Road, Monaghan Road, Cootehill Road, Newbliss Road, Main Street, The Square, Hilltop, Cranmór. Remember, this is our village so let’s keep it clean and tidy.

Monaghan Electrical IFL

Our senior footballers travelled to Scotshouse last Friday 10th June to play Currin in the Monaghan Electrical intermediate football league and they learned a very valuable lesson…to take your chances when the opportunity presents itself! Despite showing plenty of effort, blood and perspiration the lads failed to turn possession into scores and ultimately we paid a heavy price. While we created plenty of scoring chances some wayward shooting, failure to convert score-able frees, bad decisions and some hesitancy in front of the posts proved very, very costly and will haunt us as we dropped two precious league points. In stark contrast our opponents, Currin, were a lot more (far more) economical with their chances and practically scored with every attack when the attack presented itself and they secured the league spoils on a final score-line Currin 1-12 Rockcorry 0-11.

Under 8 Go Games Blitz

Pairc Naomh Mhuire was certainly transformed into a hive of activity last Saturday 11th June as we hosted a very enjoyable and exciting Under 8 Go Games Blitz. After a very dodgy start to the morning the weather remained lovely and dry and teams competing on the day included Clones, Drumhowan, Tyholland and our own wee bunch of warrior’s. Each team played three / four games and all matches were very entertaining and free-flowing and full credit to all the coaches and mentors for having the teams well organised. All the boys and girls acquitted themselves exceptionally well and gave a wonderful display, showing great enthusiasm and the signs are very promising for the future. A special word of mention to our hard working coaches Sean McCaffrey and Anthony Tate who freely gave up their time this morning to help organise and look after the future players of the club and many thanks to our Youth Officer Sharon Fox and our Coaching & Games Development Officer Pascal Smyth who organised the blitz and for making sure it ran smoothly. Its people like this that makes the Gaelic Athletic Association so special and we appreciate all the hard work they do. We all know the important role referees play within the GAA and I would like to extend a massive thank you to the referees who officiated the games this morning. Finally, it was wonderful to see so many parents there to support and encourage the kids and we look forward to the next blitz with huge excitement which takes place on Thursday 16th June at Pairc Naomh Mhuire, between 7pm to 9pm, when our under 10 footballers will showcase their skills. Well done everyone and keep up the good work.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 12 Competitive League

A massive well done to our under 12 footballers who racked up another victory earlier today when they travelled to O’Neill Park to play Doohamlet in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Division 4 League campaign. This was an exciting and enjoyable match and the boys and girls did very well against a powerful and fast moving Doohamlet outfit to secure the win. The game was played on a glorious summer’s day and the home side got off to a great and after ten minutes they lead by 0-4 to 0-0. This didn’t deter the players and while it took us some time to settle we gradually clawed our way back into the game and put together some impressive moves and notched over some fabulous scores from Niall McCormick (1-1), Josh Brannigan (1-0), Oisin Connolly (1-0) & Adam Elliot (1-1) and by the half time interval we enjoyed a six point advantage with the scoreboard showing Doohamlet 1-5 Rockcorry 4-2. The second half was equally thrilling and the team had to work hard through-out the period to break-down the challenge from Doohamlet. They produced some cracking football and some breath-taking scores from Oisin Connolly (1-3), Adam Elliott (0-2) David Linden (1-1), Niall McCormick (1-0), Josh Brannigan (0-1), Phillip Elliott (0-1) to seal the victory on a final score-line Doohamlet 2-11 Rockcorry 7-10. Their next game takes place on Saturday 25th June when they travel to play Oram and throw-in time is 12 noon.
