Castleblayney Hurling Notes

June 14th, 2016

U-6 U-8, & U-10’s

Last Wednesday the U-10s played in the second round of the ECG blitz were there was a large improvement with the boys getting a result in 3 out of the 4 games. Last night Wednesday 15th they travelled to Cootehill for the next round. Last Sunday the 13th we welcomed Omagh St. Endas and Carrickmacross to Concra were they played our U-8s & U-10s with every team playing at least 3 games and all got finished before the rain came. We look forward to going to visit Omagh in August. Next Wednesday 22nd there is a blitz n Cloghan for our U-6 / U -8 and U-10s . We ask all players to be in Cloghan for 6-45pm.

Under 14’s

We qualified for the U-14 league final with a good second half display last Monday night in Concra. 10 points down to a big and skilful Cootehill team we were looking at making an exit from this competition . A rally just before half time and an all important goal from Killian Hanratty proved a lifeline. Some stern half time words and a good shoulder on Paddy Mac produced the required response and with ten minutes gone in the second half we had the lead whittled down to a point. Caleb Ryan Conor and Senan ( who scored the all important goal ) gave us the platform but this really was a team performance with Conal , Leo the two Thomas’s to the fore. Brandon produced great saves at vital times and Zachary and Paudie also played their part. Patrick set up some vital scores and competition for starting places next Friday in Cappoquin is fierce.

So our heads and bus will head south next Friday morning . We hope for some good performances on the field and that an enjoyable weekend is had by players and parents alike. Feile fever has kicked in in Waterford and an exciting programme of events including a training session with Tadgh de Burca is one of them . Maybe the sun will continue to shine for one more week . Fingers crossed.
