Killeevan Notes

May 20th, 2016

Sraith Shoisir/Junior League.

Cill Laobhain 1.12 V 1.13 Éire Óg. Home game in Páirc na Sairséalaigh against Éire Óg Sunday 15th May.

Played in glorious sunshine Killeevan started the better, but for some wastefull efforts in front of goal, could have been out of sight at half time. With about 10 minutes to go to half time a fantastic move from defence and effort on goal by Paul O’Reilly was saved on the line . What could have been! In the end a Two point lead was all we had to show at half time. Éire Óg started much quicker in the second half and a goal and a point in succession left Cill Laobhain to chase the game. But that they did and when Noel McConnon rifled to the net with 12minutes to go Na Sáirséalaigh were back in front. However it was a lead we couldn’t keep, with a number of wides and Éire Óg getting some soft frees the game finished with a defeat by the narrowest of margins. There is pleanty to work on but equally, alot to be possitive about. Go dtí an chéad cluiche eile. Na Sáirséalaigh abú.

Sraith Tacaíocht/Reserve League.

Cill Laobhain 3.07 V 1.10 Na Cláirsigh. Away game against Monaghan Harps Wednesday 11th May.

Another great display from our reserves. Played in great conditions Cill Laobhain were forced to defend for long periods, however they did this very well particularly in the first half. As the half progresssed, goals from Gerry ‘Nino’ and Mark McGinn setteled their team to a lead 2.04 to 0.01 at scorline ag leath-am. However it was a much different Cláirsigh side who came out in the second half. Gone was the poor kicking when they got in front of goal. While Killeevan’s defence still managed to repel alot of attacks, others made it through to be registered on the scoreboard. Na Sáirséalaigh weren’t having much impact on the scoreboard for a long period. However a pointed 45 from goalkeeper Richie Evens helped matters. But Muineachán weren’t finished and a palmed goal in the final few minutes drew the teams level. A tense, hectic few minutes ensued but a last gasp Killeevan goal by Patrick McDonnell save the day for na Sáirséalaigh. Maith sibh achan duine.
