Monaghan Under 21

Well done to the Monaghan under 21 team who booked their place in the semi-final of the All-Ireland courtesy of great victory over Tyrone in the Ulster Final. It’s a great achievement and on behalf of everyone at the Rockcory GAA club I want to offer my best wishes to all the players and the team management this Saturday 16th April when they travel to Tullamore to take on the Rebel county Cork at 4.30pm. Good luck lads.

Monaghan Electrical IFL

Our senior footballers travelled to St. Oliver Plunkett Park yesterday evening (Saturday 9th April) to play Emyvale in the Monaghan Electrical intermediate football league and unfortunately suffered a heart-breaking one point defeat. The lads put in a brave effort throughout the hour and in my opinion really deserved to take away something from the game. One of the traits of this team is their resilience and they all worked hard to get back on level terms but as the game entered injury time an inspirational free-kick from the side-line secured Emyvale the spoils on a final score-line Emyvale 2-6 Rockcorry 0-11.After the game we all felt a deep sense of disappointment that the result did not go in our favour but although defeated the lads can be proud of their work-rate. Obviously, there were many talking points and plenty of mistakes made but as the old saying goes ‘’It’s not a mistake to make a mistake…BUT it’s a mistake to repeat the same mistake’. Let’s all take a valuable lesson from this and please, please learn from our mistakes so that we can bounce back stronger for the next encounter. A selection of action photographs can be viewed on our Facebook page or our Flickr site.

Team Captains

Mark Daly has been chosen to captain our senior team this year and takes over from Niall McKeown. I caught up with Mark after the game last weekend and while he was obviously disappointed with the result he remarked “it is an honour and a great privilege to be appointed captain of the club and I will do my best to lead the team.” The vice-captain is Noel Carroll and he highlighted that “I am looking forward to helping Mark and the lads in any way I can to realize our goal this year”. Both players are very experienced and have wonderful leadership qualities and on behalf of the club I wish them both the very best of luck for the year ahead.

Thus, the under 12 game against Eire Og at Pairc Naomh Mhuire has a throw-in time of 11am.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14

Our under 14 footballers picked up their first points of the league campaign when they secured a victory against Sean McDermott’s in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Division 4 league last .Saturday 9th April. Thankfully, the cold and chilly weather conditions we experienced at the Go Games Blitz improved because it was a fabulous day for a game with glorious sunshine, no wind and it was great to see a large crowd gather to watch an enjoyable game and support the players. The standard of play was very entertaining with constant passages of football as both sides gave a fine and spirited display of football. We started the brighter and totally dominated the opening exchanges and enjoyed a commanding advantage, leading 0-2 to 2-5 after the first twenty-five minutes with scores coming from the boots of Gerry Larmer (0-3), Ryan Carroll (1-1), Kevin McPhillips (1-0) and Stephen Nesbitt (0-1). While Sean McDermott’s closed the deficit at the beginning of the second half when they scored 1-1 the lads certainly stepped up the pace during the middle period and laid siege in the Sean McDermott’s half and fired over some impressive scores (Aaron Smyth 0-3, Gerry Larmer 0-3, Kevin McPhillips 1-2, Ryan Cassidy 0-1, Oisin Lynch 0-1) to seal the victory on a final score-line Sean McDermott’s 1-5 Rockcorry 3-15.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 16

The Under 16 footballers will start their season on Thursday 14th April when they travel to Smithboro to play Eire Og and the game has a throw-in time of 7pm.

Minor Football League Division 3

Our minor footballers travelled to Threemilehouse last Tuesday 5th April to play Sean McDermott’s in their opening match of the Minor football league division 3 competition. While we began brightly and played some good football scores were very hard to come by and as the game progressed Sean McDermott’s took control of proceedings and notched over and under some excellent scores to hold a comfortable advantage at the interval. On resumption of play our teamwork, movement and effort was pretty good and despite enjoying plenty of possession with a little bit of luck and cohesion in front of the posts we could have registered more scores! As it turned out Sean McDermott’s superiority was very evident by the scoreboard and it was their ability to clinically convert their possession into vital scores and secure a comprehensive victory. Their next outing is on Tuesday 12th April when they host neighbours Latton at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 6.30pm.

Go Games Blitz

It was a chilly start to the morning but it didn’t put off the future stars of the club as they travelled to Threemilehouse last Saturday 9th April to take part in their first Go Games Blitz of the year. Glorious sunshine and blue skies greeted our wee brave-hearts but there was certainly a sting in its tail with temperatures only two degrees but it didn’t stop them having fun and having a laugh at a very exciting and enjoyable blitz. All kids acquitted themselves exceptionally well, showing plenty of enthusiasm and displayed loads of energy. It was wonderful to see so many parents there to support and encourage the children and it’s nice to see some new faces there as well. A special word of mention to our hard working coaches & mentors, Sean McCaffrey, Stephen Duffy, Fintan Larmer, Sharon Fox who freely give up their time voluntarily on a Saturday morning to help organise and look after the future players of the club. It was also lovely to see some of our senior footballers namely Anthony Tate & Noel Carroll there to help out with the teams and moving forward we would love to see more senior players getting involved and helping out at the grass-roots. Well done everyone, we will look forward to the next blitz with huge excitement and anticipation.

Car Wash Fund Raiser

Do you want your car looking perfect? If the answer is yes then we have the solution because our underage players will be holding a car wash fund raiser on Saturday 30th April. That’s right folks, they will clean and polish your car and have it absolutely sparkling. It takes place at Gerry & Andrea Coyle’s Service Station who have once again kindly donated their fine facilities to accommodate the event and we sincerely thank them for their sponsorship and generosity. Please let your family and friends know and please support this car wash fundraiser and get your car down for a proper wash and make a donation towards the juvenile section of our club and as always your support of this event will be deeply appreciated.

Darkness into Light Walk
